any old computer can handle GMod server hosting,

even a Pentium 4, not joking, tried that ,worked but was slow as f*ck

maybe a 2-4 core computer with 8GB ram, 4 for the os and 4 for the GMod Server, also rename the fourm topic from "i plan on making an serber" to "GMod Server, spec recommendations"

also check any GMod forums for hosting a server, that will help a lot.

also controling a server via a remote console is designed for people who know what they are doing, not for players, don't use a console it's going to be harder to set it up and manage it.

****SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH IT'S REALLY TERRIBLE*****

Been married to my wife for 3 years now! Yay!

I ran a game server (Minecraft) on a Pentium 4 for years. It was great. It coped fine with 20+ people. Over 30 and the internet connection became the limiting factor.

Dell R710s are cheap, but noisy and run hot. If you don't pay the power bill, and no one in your house is smart enough to work out why it has suddenly increased by $10 a month, they are a great and reliable option.

Gmod server are extremely single threaded programs, they will only use one thread per server, and only need about 1gb of ram a piece to run. A pentium 4 or newer cpu will run any just fine. Network bottlenecks are going to be your biggest issues with 30+ person servers, you are better off renting one for that many people, with a standard non-fiber connection 10 people is the most likely the max before you start having issues.

This shows the network upload requirements for optimal performance.

Also an ssd is pointless for this any hdd, even a sata I or II one should be fine.
