RX 480 vs GTX 970

TomH
Go to solution Solved by ScratchCat,

Get RX 480 rather than gtx 970

1:  4-8GB Fully addressable RAM

2:  I think more Power efficient

3.  Better DX12 Support

4. AMD needs more money for R&D

5. Longer Driver Support

Many more reasons

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and I was going to go with the GTX 970 when someone suggested the RX 480. I was wondering if anyone can help me decide which to go for.

My most played games are GTA V and Euro Truck Simulator 2.

The cards I would go for would either be the Asus GTX 970 Strix or the Sapphire RX 480 nitro+

Thanks.

Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+

Getting a GTX 970 now is one of the stupidest things unless it's very heavily discounted.

From salty to bath salty in 2.9 seconds

GTA:V run "better" on GTX970 and ETS2 run better on potato.

If the 970 is not massively cheaper, grab that 480.

As a proud new owner of the RX 480 NITRO+ - GET IT. Amazing card, whisper quiet and performs as well as if not better than the 970, and has the benefit of being newer and has room for driver improvements.

I'm interested: Why the 970 instead of the 1060?

BTW, RX 480 >>>>>>> GTX 970.

The 1060 is more expensive and I'm working on a very limited budget

So you're saying that the nitro+ 480 8GB is cheaper than zotac mini GTX 1060 in your country?

Read some reviews about the noise compares to other AIB cards like MSI and Asus. How loud is it under load? I know it can be subjective and also depends on the case, etc.

Good to have a second opinion from someone who actually has the card. Thanks.

Well, I have a small refrigerator about 10 feet behind me. At idle and under light-to-moderate gaming load, it's inaudible over the fridge. When gaming heavily it makes a moderate whooshing noise, the tone of the fans isn't annoying or whiny like my old MSI R9 390 was. Just hums along happily.

If you have any other questions about the card, please feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll try to answer them best I can :)
