it would have been a shame for such a good chip to be damaged

Hey guys so I have had my 3930K for around 3-4 years now and I've had it overclocked to 4.0GHz for about 3/4 of the time. Recently games that never lagged have been lagging and web browsing is atrocious. It now takes a solid 5-6 seconds to load a page that would have loaded in just a second before (on a 200Mb/s down 20Mb/s up). Also, temperature monitoring apps such as HWMonitor, RealTemp and CoreTemp all don't show the temperature. RealTemp and CoreTemp say 91? (TJ Max) and HWMonitor doesn't show a figure. It seems to idle around 10-13%  and although games don't crash at 1080p, they do tend to lag where they didn't before. Can anyone tell me what to do?

P.S. My GPU is a GTX 780Ti.

So in the BIOS, my CPU is reading at 34 degrees C.

Well that's good news :)

I would remove your OC and see if that fixes it, if it doesn't we have to do further investigation.

I have reset the CPU to it's factory clock settings (3.2GHz I believe).

Does your gpu show any sign of overheating or something?

MSI afterburner is a good program to check that.

(it's probably fine but worth checking out anyway just to be sure.)

I'll give that a go now, sir.

i'm mostly wondering if it throttles and if it can perform correctly . What you describe is usually a result of a hard drive dying , but you're on an ssd , so i'm not sure . Also could you run realtemp while running cinebench ?

I knew that my Cinebench was running slower than usual and the result quickly proved this... the stock chip should be 1096 and it got a score of 277...

Sounds more like a clogged slow HDD issue than a CPU issue.

Even SSD's slow down due to the controller not having NAND left over to save the other dies and cells.  If it's not this, I would check the BIOS and see if there are any fixes for your X-chipset from Intel.
