Hello all,

I have a friend with a PC he bought from eBay and he's having some odd issues with Overwatch and WoW. It seems like the games are tanking in terms of frame rate for no apparent reason. While there are videos of people playing Overwatch on Ultra at 70 fps with the same specs (8 GB RAM, GTX 750 TI, G3258) he's only getting 30 on both games.

Thanks for your help.

I think it would be that processor bottlenecking things if anything. The GPU isn't that beefy either, but should easily be able to handle Overwatch on low(er) settings.

Im pretty sure Vsync is on ... since its only 30 fps

I'll ask to see if that's what's up. Thank you.

I doubt it's the CPU, since its be OC'ed to 4.2 GHz. Plus there are tons of videos on the web showing Overwatch playing at 70 fps on Ultra with this same setup.

Very well, but that is a dual core, dual thread CPU. Speed doesn't matter nearly as much as you think. The official minimum requirements for it are a Core i3. The video card could be the issue, but that CPU is likely bottlenecking the GPU, making it the root of the issue. If I had a 750ti I would try it on my 4.5GHz G3258 (or try it with my 290x), but I don't own Overwatch.

Also, how do you know those videos are telling the truth? I HIGHLY doubt a G3258 + 750ti can handle Overwatch on Ultra. Extremely unlikely.

World of Warcraft is very CPU heavy.   I wouldn't run anything less than 4 physical cores.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-3-5GHz-Quad-Core-BX80646I54690K-Processor-/232050935545?hash=item36075046f9:g:RiUAAOSwIgNXs7Dn

The 4690k should be compatible in that board and still overclockable.  I would consider waiting for Zen and possibly Kabylake to start rolling out to get a fourth gen intel.  The slightly faster Kabylake and cost:performance of Zen should hopefully bring the cost on the older intel chips down.

The 750 TI (as long is it's not made by Vamery) should be fine for around up to medium settings at 1080p, but would probably be a good idea to upgrade to something more modern like a RX 470 or 480 - perhaps the GTX 1060 (90%) 3GB model.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

You have a good point, I didn't look at those, my bad I guess.

I didn't know it was that CPU intensive. My goof I guess. Thanks for showing this, I'll keep it in mind.

If your friend does decide to drop a better CPU in it, have them make sure it's a Z87 or Z97 motherboard for K sku overclocking support.  It really should be a Z board since it's an overclock Pentium, but there are a few non Z boards out there that I've heard of people overclocking the anniversary chip with.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.
