I thought so, It has a better upgrade path as well, right? (LGA 1151) and the AM3+ Is dead :P

Also, can I overclock It? I know It has no K, but I just have heard you could??

Kinda but it's using special motherboards and intel disabled the first line of these boards, additionally the boards have an increased price from similar quality boards so just go with a k model if OCing is an interest for you

i5 6500. Games prefer fewer, more powerful cores and it also utilises DDR4.

AM3+ is a dead socket whilst Skylake still has an upgrade path with Kaby Lake.

You can with BCLK overclocking which is achieved with certain BIOSes on Z170 motherboards. I just wouldn't advise doing it for i5s and above.

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

I have seen video's saying you can, it might void any warranty but all up to you. Definitely better upgrade path, I have heard Kaby lake uses the same socket, could be wrong, but if not it will be nice to have in the future.

You still can OC those non-K CPU's with certain bios's. (Found online in various places)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Wow It does support.

" Intel's 7th-gen Core processors, presumably the latest and greatest CPUs the company has to offer. They're the successor to Intel's 6th-gen "Skylake" processors from 2015."

This Is gonna be sweet!

I don't get all the people calling AM3+ and FM2+ dead platforms when no one complains about Intel "tock" motherboards also not being upgradable.

It's not that it's a dead platform. It's that the CPUs in it are bad.

Heh, I miss my old 2600K, it battled and mostly won against (not by much looking at avg fps) my brothers FX 8350 for months and months when games were released at the time..

Back when the 880Mhz versions of HD7950's were stronk and the king of the hill. We both had one each :)

Funnily enough, my 4690 (locked non-K @ 4.0Ghz) is only ever slightly slower (Multithreaded workloads) than the 2600K @ 4.0Ghz

I was surprised.

I'd not choose an FX machine today,... unless I knew 100% I'd be GPU bound,...

Not all games are created equal to run on more cores, the ones that don't,.... suffer greatly in the MIN-FPS department.

Not really. Some motherboards used to have BCLK overclocking, but I think Intel shut that down or something. It may be possible with Z170 boards IIRC.

And yes, the upgrade path is much, much better. Mid tier on the 1151 platform is already beyond the high end of AM3+.

Honestly you would not notice a difference in gaming, 8350 is ok BUT if budget is not an issue go with the intel it is futureproof has ddr4 and is better overall. Actually these two cant be compared the one is cheap and the other is better but the cpu itself and the rest of the hardware, mobo and ddr4 memory will be a LOT more expensive. So to cap it up if you have monies go intel if you are in a tight budget go amd.

i5 is most likely better in the majority of cases but the FX is not bad also. :)

For gaming go for i5 6500 with Z170 or H170 chipset. And on the other hand FX 8350 is not a bad cpu. It has the potential to perform but not as the top line i5's. The same question was mine 3 years ago...i5 4670K vs FX 8350.
