I've been having problems with my 1 week old gaming PC. It's starting of programs and initial start up are extremely slow and randomly goes not responding then stops. I'm not sure why because the computer runs games perfectly fine but trying to start steam takes a long time. I've been thinking it might be because I have a lot of stuff downloaded on it or maybe a virus already? If anyone has ideas please help.

its probably that HDD, get a 120 or more GB SSD and reinstall windows to that

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

wht would it be the hard drive?

The hard drive can't keep up, if you look at the usage it is most likely at 100%.

Is this what I should be looking at? And is there anyway I can help it? Because I can't really afford a ssd or any of that sort

The only way would be an ssd since hdds cannot read the data fast enough, even a $30-$40 120gb ssd would do though.

I think you know it by now, but the solution to your problem is to get an SSD. Outside of that, there are a few things you can do to avoid the problem (not fix it).

Advice #1 would be to never turn your PC off; run it 24/7 and you'll never have to deal with boot times. It'll also help by giving windows enough time to do it's data management things while you are sleeping. And as a bonus, leaving the PC 24/7 is also a great opportunity to do some crunching for distributed computing (Folding / Boinc).

Similarly, don't close stuff. Say you are working on a spreadsheet; well, don't close it each time you are finished. Leave it on and you can resume instantly.

Last, get rid of Windows indexing. It sucks up both CPU time and disk time; disable as much of it as you can for some improvements.

Oh so if I got a ssd and transferred the OS onto it and wiped the hard drive I was using it would fix the problem?

You've got your priorities wrong. It's not a "problem". It's a hardware limitation, that's very different. It's as if you were saying that an NES can't output HD graphics; not a "problem", it's just a limitation.

But yes, grab yourself an SSD to improve snappiness.

Yea I know it's a limitation now thanks to you so I'll look into a 120gb ssd and try to figure out how to get the OS onto the ssd or even just wipe then hard drive and get a new OS all together.

so last question do you have any recommendations for 120gb ssd under 60?

Kingston V300. Run away from it as if it was the plague! Do NOT buy that SSD. Ever. Ask anyone on the forums and they'll agree.

I don't know about the other one, though.
