GPU-Upgrade in the future: Nvidia or AMD?

For the time beeing, im on a Gigabyte GTX 970 OC version and my question is, is it worth changing over to the RX480, or will there be no noticable performance-boost from 970 to 480?

Im not in the lane of spending 300 USD +++, as im more of a 1080p - casual gamer satisfied with mostly High / Ultra mix in games.

Any tips?

RX 480 is more futureproof, better in low-level APIs, better in higher resolutions such as 1440p, doesn't have gimped VRAM like the 970 and is a newer card. Whether it's worth it... If you sell your 970 and get a 480 without adding any money then hell yeah, otherwise, it's not a worthy upgrade.

There will be a slight difference, but it isn't worth it. The only upgrade worthwhile currently would be to a 1070, but not at its current price. I would hold on to the 970 for now as it is still very capable and buy into Vega when that launches at the end of the year or start of next one or a 1070 at reduced price.

The 480 is probably your best bet, but just go and do some more research, but 480 in an i5 build will be pretty good for now. The reason I say this, I because there is more VRAM in the 480, and in DX12, it is a very good performer. Hope you make a good decision :)

Yeah, ALOT more ram - compared to the "4GB" 970.. I wish norwegians could get 30 dollars back too.. asswipes :(

Yep, i have an i5 6600K build, so a 480 would be great. Im going to wait it out and see what happens on the GPU front.
Indeed, a good decision is in order.

RX 480 is like a few % faster than GTX 970.

1060 like 10% faster maybe?

1070 is 45%~ faster.

1080 should be around 70-85% faster.

so yea... i would wait. If you need more performance, 1070 or 1080 will be a useful step. Everything below that is a too small upgrade.
