Gigabyte NVIDIA Gtx 980Ti Or or 1070/1080

Hey, I'm planning on upgrading my monitor set up to the Acer Predator 34x. i have a simple 970 however after a lot of saving i want eye candy, i found the extreme 980ti for £383 and some pennies and thought that should be more than enough to use this monitor to ti's full potential right? or should i save a little more for the new generation of graphics cards?.

 

i'm grateful for any advice on the matter this is my first major upgrade from my first build.

The GTX 1070 can be had for the same price. I would shoot for that instead.

If the 980ti costs the same go with a 1070 if it costs significantly less $389 go for it. I have the PG279Q which is a 2560X1440p monitor at 165hz. In games like overwatch I usually get 142FPS average on max settings. Other games like GTA V I get 80-100FPS with some AA filter turned off becuase it is 1440. The 1070 and 980ti are virtually the same card but the 1070 has more Vram which might help with the larger res.

Just keeping this here as a Seems fairly cheap for a 980ti, looks like a good deal. The 1070 performs quite similarly to the 980ti when both are overclocked, you wouldn't be missing out on much. Here's some benches:

I would take the 1070, the 980ti has less vRAM and supports less newer DX 12 features.

I really would go with a 1070 even tho they cost about the same and when you overclock both, the perform almost the same and also the 1070 supports more DirectX 12 Features.

He probably meant nVidia features. If you only want to game then I would also suggest to go with the newer architecture. If however you need cuda cores, the 980Ti has more of them than the 1070.

Yeah I'm looking to simply game on an ultra wide platform simply so i can show off to some of my console friends you know how it is aha.

At this point, it's simply colour scheme/preference or customer support for the aftermarket ones. EVGA has stellar customer service and MSI aren't so bad themselves. I can't say the same for ASUS since they always manage to get on everybody's shitlist. I would advise against the Founder's Edition however since reference cards usually run hot.

Yeah my last card was a Gigabyte windforce card i was looking at the g1 gaming ones as i want to try and step it up a little this time. speaking of which this is slightly off topic but i'm looking to try and find a wall mount for the said monitor i was going after do you have any recommendations i could look at? i'm struggling to find a mount for it.

The G1 Gamings are pretty decent so that's not a bad choice at all.

 

As for wall mounts, the Ergotech Freedom Arm is a solid choice. I'd probably opt for the 'Heavy Duty' variant though since you're mounting a Predator X34 on it.

No, that's the regular one. To be honest, it might be doable but the heavy duty gives the peace of mind for something such as the X34.

 

The heavy duty variant has the model name of FDM-HD-S01. You may get one off EBay because I cannot seem to find a UK retailer selling one.

yeah it's within the weight limit ... just aha and those are damn hard to find so far every ebay listing i've found has ended, i'm in the process of saving up so i have a little time to go looking, do you reckon if i found a pc specallists store they may be able to get a hold of one for me?
