Hello,

I recently came across an article about the 1070m that claims it will be released on August 17th. As I would really like a new gaming laptop, this is good news for me. As it would be best if I got this laptop as soon as possible, I would like some advice regarding whether a) there will be 1070m laptops available on August 17th, and b) whether it makes sense to wait for the price to go down before getting a new laptop rather than doing so right as it is released (my budget is around US$1,000 for the entire laptop).

I know this is a short post, but, I'm not really sure what else I can include.

Never buy a laptop when they first come out, unless you hate money. I always buy a gen back.

Doesnt this apply to most things in life?

Needs money for car parts :P

How long should I wait if I want a 1070m? Are you suggesting that I wait for 1100s to come out?

Not necessarily. A CPU change will do it too. My wife's Apache Pro was 2000 bucks when it first came out, but she bought it for 1100 when the Skylake model hit. Funny bit is the Broadwell model is faster than the Skylake.

Depends on what you're going to be doing. From what I've seen the Pascal models will be larger, as they need extra cooling. If you're not after every setting and frame go for a Maxwell laptop. They should plummet in price soon. Tempted to get one myself.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I agree, that 970m is an absolute beast. Trying to get my hands on one to put into my MSI GT780.

It would certainly help to see reviews of the 1070m vs the 970m. There may not be much of a performance difference. (They could be concentrating on power consumption instead, for example.)

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

From the writeup I saw on the 1070m it's going to be another beastly mobile card. Power-hungry and all. It's supposed to be clocked at higher frequencies than the desktop variants.

That would be odd, as the desktop has better power delivery and cooling.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

This is the article I read a while back.

http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-and-1080-coming-to-gaming-notebooks/

They point to the fact that the M series of cards will essentially be no different from the desktop versions now.

And this is the newer one with the new leaks.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-pascal-mobile-gpus-gtx1070-gtx1060/

Also it seems I misremembered and it's the CUDA core count that's higher on he mobile 1070, clockspeed is lower.

I've wrapped my brain around getting a new laptop for the longest time -.- I was just about to buy one...until I googled 1070m and Gamescom haha

I personally want to wait for the new ones. The 900m series of laptops all suck on battery life and I'm a little hesitant on an Acer Predator.

If the 1000m series is efficient and keeps to a laptop that's lighter than 8lbs? I'm sold. As for games, I'm sure these laptops will hold up longer than their predecessors.

No doubt and even the 780M powered laptops are still kicking.

Hell even my old GT780DXR is still able to run the Witcher 3 and No Mans Sky. Not great mind you, but well enough to play. And it's a Sandy i7 with a GTX 570m, I can't wait to finally get my hands on a 970m for it.
