I5 3570k. Time to upgrade?

Hello, I just recently updated my PC to a EVGA GTX 1070 from a ASUS HD 7850 xDxDxD and I was wondering if my i5 3570k could stick with me any longer I bought it 4 years ago when it was hype. I OCd it up to 4.7Ghz and I get great temps even on air cooling lol. I don't notice anything bad, or bottlenecking about it just wanted to hear some opinions.

If i was to upgrade what could I look into?

Also a secondary question, I know that a EVGA GTX 1070 is rated for a 1594/1784MHz Core/Boost. How is it that I see upwards of 2138MHz in PrecisionxOC with only a +150 GPU Clock offset?

Don't really think there is much point. But a few questions. What monitor do you use? and what games do you like to play?

Monitors are 1 Planar PX2710MW 27" and 2 Planar PLL2410W 24", and for types of games, I played battlefield competitively for as long as I've had a PC so I never really cared for graphics as Id just play on low anyways, but now a couple years later I like to play new triple a titles and maybe some modded Minecraft with some buddies nothing to heavy.

I would stay with it until zen and kaby come out, a i5 3570K isn't that slower than a i5 6600k.

Maybe upgrade to a 3770k as mentioned before. But dont buy a new gen. You will have to buy new mobo and ram. So its not worth your money. Your gpu will be fine with your workload.

Basically, Nvidia's GPU boost technology will boost a core clock based on reading values of that specific chip - and each chip is a bit different. But I expect that every card is being boosted beyond 1900 Mhz.

A core OC of +107 Mhz brings my EVGA GTX 1070 SC to 2100 Mhz, while the card GPU boosts to 1999 Mhz core on its own, without any OC.

Unless you are playing at 144-120Hz 1080p you are fine. At 60hz 1080p the 1070 probably can still get above 60 fps in most games anyway even with a slower processor.

Are you sure a non-K i5 6600 is faster than a 3570K at 4.7GHz??

Like others have suggested, your current CPU will be fine until the next generation of CPU hardware releases from AMD and Nvidia, which will lower the cost / gained-performance ratio for an upgrade, and let you get something that will make for a greater improvement over what you have right now.

Thanks now it makes sense.

Also what I was thinking, I read around seeing that at 1080p the 1070 will hit higher then 60fps without even using its full potential.

I personally don't mind 60hz call me old school lol but until i can get 3 27" 120hz monitors for a good price then I'd prob upgrade. Every one says it's better I guess i haven't seen it in person.

No real need to upgrade. I had a 3570k as well and only upgraded to a 6700k because I started with light media creation.

In games the improvement was noticable in very small numbers. Only GTA V and AC Syndicate saw a boost (back then with a GTX 970 and 1080p).

The i5 6600 has pretty bad value compared to the i5 6500/i5 6400

i5 6600 is only 10-15€ more than the 6400 in my country.

Well in the UK and US it's about 17 pounds or 16 dollars higher than the i5 6500 for 100 MHz; not the best value.

But it is 600MHz difference compared to the 6400 which in my opinion is worth even €20 extra.

Actually it can boost to 3.3 (according to Intel ark), it would be 300 MHz under load.

edit: ohh misread it, the i5 6600 can boost to 3.9.

The only reason I just ordered a skylake i3 was for USB 3, SATA 3 and mini ITX along with the option of PCI-E X4 M.2 in the future. A OC IB i5 will more than hold its own with a 1070. I'd hold off untill more advanced features come out

I am going to be upgrading to a GTX Evga 1060 and I think my current amd 6 core phenom 6300 will bottle neck it, so I am going to eith upgrade to a icore 5 6500 or 6600k. For you I think either of these will work.
