Old Samsung Flickers on/off

My old samsung monitor ive got just wont stop flickering on an off. It shows a image for about half a second then turns off and back on for half a second. previously it use to "Eventualy" work with a lil time. now it just wont seem to stay on no matter what i do. removed/changed power cables. tried dvi/vga cables both same issue. any idea on what i can try to get it working? 

Main system:

i7 6700k @4.8ghz 1.45v

ROG Maximus Hero VIII

Gigabyte G1 980ti Sli @1500 ghz

Samsung 950 pro 512gb

16gb G.Skill Ripjawz V @3400mhz 

Corsair H115i 280mm AIO

Does it happen to be a syncmaster 204 series?

 

Hehe, I bet you anything that the electrolytic capacitors are failing. This is where I get most of my monitors, junk ones that don't turn on. Replace the capacitors in the power supply and they come back to life!

You could open it up, take the power supply out, mail it to me, and I would fix it for you at no cost, just pay shipping. But if you are outside of the US, it probably ain't worth it. 

 

To get them apart, you just need a regular screwdriver and a phillips one.

go to a TV repair store they should be able to fix it for not that much

yes there is one a few miles from my house. they do work on monitors also

You should be able to find replacement PSUs on ebay. But why not invest in a cheap soldering iron from hobbyking? They are less than 20 bucks...

Funny you mention this monitor, I got a free 204T a couple days ago. Electrolytic capacitors were completely dry. I smashed one open with percussive maintenance and there was no electrolyte left... Works like new now, just cracked open a couple old laptop chargers and stole their capacitors.

 

When replacing caps:

Max voltage rating can be equal or higher than the original voltage.

Capacitance can be higher or equal, but I wouldn't exceed more than 25% of the original value.

 

Size doesn't matter unless they won't fit in the case or PCB. Remember to get the polarity correct!
