Ha.  No, you'll definitely want that air to circulate.  The reason for leaving your door open is that the returns on your central air act as a vacuum sucking in the dirty (hot) air in order to run it back through the evaporator core and back into the house through the registers.  If your door is closed, the hot air from your room is not included into that circulation.  Even though cool air is being pump in, hot air remains.

Don't open the window and close the blinds. Especially when it's hot outside.

Otherwise you're just letting the hot air from outside, inside. You're better off just having a fan circulate the air inside.

This is especially true if the temperature outside is warmer than the one inside.

I'm fortunate and unfortunate at the same time that the office in my house is more of an open configuration on the first floor so heat doesn't build up too bad.  Whenever the air is not circulating, I can definitely feel heat building up in that corner of the room reminding me that the beast is doing some work.

This whole thread kind of makes me laugh. Not that it's anything that laughable - just the amount of comments on what I wouldn't expect to be a high-traffic topic.

 

If the heat has nowhere to go the room will get hot regardless of what you are running.

In that kind of outdoor heat you are definitely better off not opening the window. Keep the door open, make sure your vent is uncovered, make sure your cold-air return is not covered. The AC won't run if it doesn't know it's hot.

Use a fan (as someone else said) not necessarily on you or your computer but just to keep the air circulating.
If you have a multi-monitor setup or a big tv in the same room, shut off whatever you aren't using. LCDs produce a lot more heat than you might think.

 

You might also be fighting a losing battle depending on where your room is:

South-facing rooms get more sun (in the northern hemisphere).

Poor insulation (My previous home-office was half above the garage and it was much colder during the winter and much warmer during the summer).

I have the same problem. Super hot in summer super cold in winter. In the winter I use the windows so my PC idles at like 1C because it is like -30C outside all the time. I just have to have my other PC folding 24/7 otherwise the water in my AIO would freeze. As for the summer I find putting a windows fan in and exhausting the air out helps with another stand fan blowing in from the door at you to help circulate the heat

It's all good. I have a fan going already, AC is on, windows closed, vents uncovered. I already feel a difference

Yeah it gets like 39C with 86% humidity here and -40C in the winter. Yet I wear shorts all year long
