Okay, how much space do you have?

If I were to get a 2 speaker setup I'd get either the Jbl LSR305 or 308

(5" or 8")

They are both quite a bit under your budget but they still count to some of the best speakers available in that price range.

Also they come separate so you'd have to buy two. Around $120-200 each.

I just bought these a couple of weeks ago.  https://www.pccasegear.com/products/20183/swan-m200mkiii-reference-powered-monitors/

Pretty happy with them so far.  Running them though an Objective DAC.  They're self powered so you don't need an amp.  Handle pretty much everything I've thrown at them so far.  Usually listen to Rock, Metal, Jazz and, Orchestral Soundtracks.  However from reviews they do apparently have a sharp falloff in the lower bass frequencies. Not really a problem for me since the only time I'd expect to encounter those are in electronic music (which I don't really listen to outside Pendulum which seems to be fine) and those "bwaaaah" movie trailer effects.  In all honesty if you listen to a lot of stuff with music in those lower frequencies you'd be better off with a 2.1 system with a dedicated sub.  Aside from that, I've found the bass is plenty good enough, vocals are nice and clear, highs aren't tinny and they've got a nice soundstage.  Also nice alternative to my Sennheiser HD600s.

Although I will say spending this kind of money on speakers is rather overkill unless you're serious about audio quality.  I've you're only listening to standard mp3s, itunes m4as, or spotify streams, you're kind of throwing your money away.  Expensive speakers can only do so much with lossy audio.

You will not notice a difference when getting a new DAC for These things.

Also, if you have an external DAC you also Need an external AMP.

If you were to get real headphones i'd advice a new Sound System but for the Zero's you are fine with onboard UNLESS the Sound is distorted or too quiet at 100%.

Honestly, I don't think there's any point to pairing a DAC with a set of gaming headphones, even if they're made by Sennheiser.  Also a DAC isn't going to be compatible with the microphone anyway.  Only benefit to getting a DAC in this situation would be if your onboard sound is full of electronic interference and static.

It's just that l have $800 lying around from this scholarship thing and l have to spend it on something educational. I could pass this off as educational. Have to spend the money by the end of this year. Any ideas on what to spend it on?

Laptop/tablet for school/uni?  Computer software related to your schooling like MS office (although most unis provide MS office for free), etc.  Textbooks... uni textbooks are so damn expensive...

TBH you'd probably only be able to pass off audio equipment as educational if it were related to music production/recording/etc. But I don't know how your scholarship thing works so I could be wrong.
