How do I disconnect this cable?!

Go to solution Solved by Skiiwee29,

looks like a Molex to me.. push the 2 black tabs and it will help create the separation needed.

Sorry for the stupid question but how the F do I get these cables to disconnect?! I've tried pushing down those tabs on both sides while pulling them apart but I just can't get it to even wiggle! Am I doing this wrong? If so, how do I disconnect it right? I didn't build my pc so I didn't put it together to know how it originally connected.. I'm trying to change my dead PSU and this is one of the cables that attaches to it so I can't get it out until I've disconnected it..

It can be sometimes as Molex is a real pain in the ass :/ I personally avoid it at all costs lol. I will even go out of my way to get something other than what I initially wanted if it has a molex plug on it, thats how much I despise molex. See if you can get some help on pushing those tabs towards the piece you want to remove.

I have some experience building PC's now, but I have never build a computer with molex. I understand they function as a power supply but aren't there better options? I don't even think my PSU came with a molex connector.

Most items these days are drifting towards SATA for power instead of molex, but there are still ALOT of hardware out there that uses Molex unfortunately. I am sure your PSU has molex cables. They all have alteast 1 strand of them. I can guarantee you that you do. I have the 750w version of the G2 and I have em.

Molex is a pain in the butt. Wiggling should help. (Molex shouldnt have a locking mechanism afaik)

Then you're most likely correct that I have one too, considering I'm using a G2 850w.

Molex as a connector is a dying format, and is usually replaced by SATA power connectors today.

(I use old Molex Connectors only for DIY stuff to plug batteries wich are charged by an external charger for example)

For devices wich are controlled later on (like a fan controller) Molex is not to bad when the connector isn't of the cheapest kind in the world ... it helps alot to lubricate them befor you plug them with some candle wax or PTFE spray.
