Hello, I bet there is probably more than one (hundred?) post about this, but I basically am not willing to scroll through pages and pages of "I want these specific settings" "There is no such thing."

So here I go.

I want a phone that I can afford, and that will last me a long while. I honestly don't have a budget, but I wouldn't personally like to spend over ~$500, as around that price point it will probably take me a year or so to save up.

Anyways.

All I want to do is be able to download apps and run them without worrying about "running short of insert something here", and being able to customize the hardware/software as much as possible. I kinda wanna learn how to program on android (I know iPhones wouldn't fit the last statement at all, so I am counting those out,) and I don't want to be renewing my phone for at least 2-3 years. I would like to see people post as many suggestions as possible, instead of just trying to find the best fit. I don't have much access to information on phones, even through Google.

Also, one question for people who have more experience than me:

- Is it considerably harmful to repeatedly write and erase memory (AKA installing and uninstalling apps) on a phone?

I would have to save for a year if I have to pay over 500 dollars. Just not throwing the idea of paying a pricey phone away :)

Well without a budget it's kind of impossible for us to help you ;)
And if you're waiting that long, just ask the question later. Too many phones come out in a year to give you any kind of useful information now.

I don't know what you consider as a long while.

I have about 4,5 years old iPhone 4S. Does it work? Yes. Is it fast? No, usable but definetly not fast at all. Would I like a newer phone? For a few years now, I just know they are a shitty investment so I'm still using it.

I think it's just how you handle the phone whether it last or doesn't. The OS upgrades will eventually fuck up the phone until it is slow as hell.

Apple or Sony gets my vote, or maybe a My|Phone? Sadly I think they only sell those in Asia so if you live in America or Europe look for the two first. :)

I have had this http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_duos_s7562-4883.php for about 4 years now. It literally cannot handle any application well, not even the Keyboard process. So I also had to renew my contract with my carrier, and when I did I got a free phone, this one http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_j1_ace-7673.php

It is not bad in performance, but I have not installed any heavy apps on it because I fear of turning it into another useless piece of silicon.

Just as a general reply to what you all have been saying. The plan is to have a new, definite phone this year, and leave the J1 as a backup. I don't want to wait until december to ask "OMG what should I get" because that would mean waiting even a bit longer.
