Hello everyone this is the first post I have ever made on this forum so I would like to say hi for the first time, I also just got my wisdom teeth out so forgive me if any of this isn't coherent.

So I recently built a new machine about last January and it is using a:

Intel core i7 6700k

16gb DDR4 RAM at 3600hz

ADATA SSD 480gb over sata

Hard disk hard drive 1tb 7200 rpms

AsRock Z170 M extreme 4

And finally a EVGA SC 970

So now to the question I am looking to eventually upgrade my monitors and my graphics card so my question is would it be better to get a 1440p 144hz first or a 1070?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

I would say a 1070 first as it would be a waste to us 144hz on a 970.

Difficult question, the 970 won't support 1440p 144hz , but at 1080 p the 1070 won't really make a difference. Personally, I would get the monitor as the 1070 cost may still drop a bit in the next months. Welcome the the forum and good luck with your wisdom teeth!

I would suggest getting the 1070 first, since if you are playing anything other than tf2, csgo, etc. you can only dream of hitting that 144hz refreshrate with that 970. It'll never happen.

My System has a Intel Core i7 4790k @4.5ghz Cooled by A Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO With a MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition and 16GB of Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz Memory.

What? Of course the 970 supports 1440p / 144 Hz. Why shouldn't it?

It might be not fast enough for max settings.

Or... for Idiots who are too stupid to use Setting sliders (sorry. But most people act like only super high ultra setting exists or nothing.)

Even lowering settings won't get you to over 60fps even at 1440 with a 970 in some games. Don't be rude.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Of course it will.

There is NOT one single game, that doesnt run in 1440p after you lowered the Settings.

i mean, Most people are like, either you get 60+ fps on ULTRA settings, or its "Not playable no chance".

And this is really Annoying to read "GPU xy can't be used on Resolution xxxx" bla bla.

use sliders to that extend, that satisfy you, and it will work. If not, upgrade the gpu. Simple as that.

I have a 970, and I have used a 1440p monitor with it. In order to even get 60 fps stably, I had to lower the settings to the point where it looked better in 1080p. I'm not saying it isn't doable, just that in order for it to work you sacrifice so much that it is essentially wasted.
