Download speed limit question.

Hey guys, i have a weird question that probably has an answer of "NO" but trying my luck anyway, my internet provider (in Saudi Arabia) has the most stupid system in humanity which is if you have fiber you get 40 GB/day download limit so if you pass that your internet speed goes to from 37 MB/s to 0.6 MB/s which is unbearable! so my question is is there anything I can do in my router settings or something to work around it. thanks.

I don't believe so, because they are throttling your internet if you go over the limit you are pretty much stuck.

Years ago, I remember using an application that was capable of monitoring the download and upload speeds of each application running on the computer, and it also allowed to apply limits to each application.

I had no need for it but it may be possible to configure different limits for various times of the day and maybe such application also had a global counter, allowing you to change limits once total bandwidth exceeds a value.

 

I don't remember the name of that application but if you search for some terms like network monitor meter logger and so on you may find it

I can't be sure it was exactly the one I remember.

 

In worst case scenario , you have 40 GB per day, you probably don't do traffic between 2 am and 8 am (about 6 hours) so you're left with about 18 hours in a day.  40 GB  / 18 hours = 2.22 GB, let's round it down to 2 GB  / hour  or 2048 MB / hour  or 2048 MB every 3600 seconds so you have a constant speed of 0.57 MB/s 

 

If you limit your computer's connection to 0.5 MB/s or 500 KB/s you're guaranteed not to go over your daily limit. So just set it to 1 MB/s or something like that, and limit programs that download all the time (torrent applications for example) to less than 0.5 MB/s ) and you'll definitely NOT go over your 40 GB a day.

A VPN will still use up bandwidth, as the connection to the VPN server has to go through the ISP first. The data is just encrypted, but the size does not change.

But the OP just said that if it goes over 40 GB it become 0.6 MB/s already
