permanent test bench

So I need a new motherboard and the specs that I need to fit my current case (chipset; AMD 970, socket; AM3+, size; microATX) doesn't exist that i've seen. so I'm thinking of ditching my case and switching to an open air test bench but before I do I'd like to know if it's safe to do this as a permanent solution. assume for this that it will be out of the way of drinks, pets, etc and will be cleaned regularly.

As long as you clean it regularly and keep it up off the floor away from dust and dirt, drinks, food etc. it should be fine.  I don't see any reason it should be bad for the hardware.
