the overall multi-threaded performance wasn't too bad...but the single-threaded performance was horrible.

if you have to go with AMD for some reason...get the FX-8320/8320E and overclock it yourself...they are all the same until you get to FX-8370/9370/9590 which are binned. but even then, overclocking a CPU with such low IPC will only have a slight benefit..so save your money and go cheap...or get an i5

I did a little research, and that 8320 combo was 250 dollars in greece i found an 8350, Hyper 212 Evo, And MSI Gaming 970 for 250

that's great...get it...so long as you're not expecting top of the line gaming performance for that price...and you don't plan on getting a GTX 1060 or an RX 480 in the future and start playing high-end modern games on it..it'll do just fine.

It should handle the RX 480 if it is at 4.3GHz+ in the vast majority of games.

Sounds like a good deal but the new FX-8350/70 boxes includes the Wraith cooler which is on par with the 212 Evo!

I had 8350 before i got 6600 and i can highly recommend getting i5 insted. 8350 runs quite hot and unless you have quality mobo with decent vrm, it will run hot enough to throttle the thing on default clocks even. Do yourself a favor and go with i5.

Bottleneck test in 10 games intel i5-6500 vs AMD FX 8370 with overclocked GeForce GTX 970@ 1500/2000Mhz Core/Memory. Clearly for gaming i5-6500 is noticeably better choice.

Sure but it also cost more, I think the only Intel option in comparable price point is the i3-6100...

I have a 760 so no bottleneck problems there

And I dont care about gaming that much

I will get the framerates i want with the 8350

For rendering in premiere 8350 is the better choice

Also i get a free Hyper 212 Evo with the 8350

As someone who's been die hard AMD since 2000 go with the Intel. I have an 8350 and it's very sub par. Runs hot and loud and in certain games it really bottlenecks. That is not a gaming CPU. I wish someone would have slapped me in the face 2 years ago when I built this rig and said hell no go intel and nvidia. Now I'm going blue/green because red team has barely sub par offerings in the gaming category.

The loud part would probably be because of you either running a stock cooler, or one that really isn't that good. Though the AMD stock cooler that you get with an FX 8*** does run silent when used with Phenom II X4. And the FX line is pretty much made up of Opterons (that only ever did well at low clock speeds) which have had 4-6 modules removed......so yeah, there's that too

That makes sense but I'm so glad to be finally going to a system that is overpowered finally for what I do with a pc. It will use less power and heat and I'm pretty positive it will be quieter as well. It sucks having to clean my audio of that little jet engine noise after every recording. Besides just the noise I can see that the FX 8350 was not designed to game on ultra settings at 1080 while recording at 1080p60 and running audacity and a webcam. So looking forward to upgrading.

For me the overpowered jump was from a Pentium III 667EB to an i5 4440 to a 4790K. Nothing I throw at it puts it under more than a mild load (unlike the i5-that I had getting maxed out frequently)-especially since I got it to 4.8GHz at 1.3V

That's awesome. I think I'm going to notice a helluva difference going from an FX 8350 with R9 290x to an i7 6700 with GTX 1070.

Considering a significantly older i7 2700K at 5GHz beats one at 5.3GHz...definitely.

LOL. I wish I'd had done more research. I just assumed since I was an AMD fan that I was buying an Amazing processor. Sigh. Being old and stubborn. I had been console gaming for a long time so wasn't familiar with the FX series other than people were saying OMG these things are amazing!! LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE!

Consoles (or more specifically the original Xbox), the things that allowed me to actually play more than old games (my computer had a Riva TNT2 M64-think of it this way, it was quite terrible at Warcraft III, and could only run it at 800x600 at a mix of low and medium settings).
