400 Dollar Gaming Budget?

Dubesta11

I don't know how long I have been out of the loop, but what is the best computer build for 400 dollars (500 with Windows)? I was thinking an i3/950 or so but that is still over budget. Any suggestions for my friend will be helpful.

used parts can get you far with that amount of cash, atleast here in Sweden, you could get an I5 and a Titan used here if you are lucky... xD its insaine how cheap some people sell there old titans

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

If you search hard and persistently enough for good deals, you could build a pretty decent/good computer with $400. That's if you're willing to wait for some time between starting to purchase parts and actually finishing the build. I made this over the course of a few months with the motherboard being the only used part. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/jzW8KZ
You could save a good chunk of money if you buy a used motherboard with bent pins and realign them yourself.

That CPU seems very weak. What would relative gaming performance be for something like gta5 on medium/low settings at 1080p?

should be fine at high 1080p. the cpu is just enough for the r9 380, but i wouldn't put it with more than a 380x.

I understand that linux is free, but windows is required, which is why I have the 400 dollar budget.
