How much memory does your Windows 10 use without running programs?

I could have sworn that it never used to use this much memory. From a cold boot it uses 2.5/2.6gb of memory. I don't have many programs that run on startup and closing all of them doesn't drop the memory usage. Nothing big shows up under the processes tab either.

Damn, that's crazy. I remember mine using about 1.8 and if I had chrome running with a few tabs it would use about 2.6gb.

I'm fine with it using as much ram as it wants, because 16gb is more than enough for my use and I just want the os running as fast as it can.

windows dynamically uses somewhere in the 2-8GB range i believe depending on how much system memory iss sitting idle.

something to note that people often forget is that empty system memory, is wasted system memory.

I had like 18 tabs open and was using 8GB of my 16.

Fun Fact: It'll take over 20k tabs to bring 32gb of ram to it's knees.

Ram usage windows used is based on how much ram you have, the more ram you have the more it pre loads into ram, think linus explained this in a video in the past don't remember which, ram usage inside windows changed a lot with windows 7 then again in windows 10, the way windows uses your ram is a lot different then it used to be under windows xp.

That doesn't explain my 2.1 usage out of 32 compared to these guys 2.X with less ram. I see the OP has a anti virus up and running. So that explains his a little over mine.

Even with my 64GB kit it's still about the same usage just on the desktop. When I'm working, got half a dozen programs up and running it uses considerably more.

Of what, blank tabs? Sometimes I open a bookmarks folder containing about 200 deviantart tabs. It uses about 5-6 GB of RAM maybe more. I would check but I'm not at my computer right now.

No, things like facebook, LTT, imgur, gmail, a few blogs. No blank pages, just stuff with images/text/links to load.

It took A LONG time to close them all.
