Hi all. Yeah my 570 is back in until the RMA for my 390x is done. Anyways, like all fermi cards, this thing runs toasty. I don't care about the noise much, I wear a headset all day, but the thing gets into the 90*C area at my new house (last time I used it I was in a different house that was 1 story and kept at 69*F at ALL TIMES) as I'm upstairs and it easily gets 80*F in my room with almost no ventilation in here. Yes, it's within the safe limits of the card, but I'd rather not. So, I devised a temporary cooling-helper-ish thing to give the card some more air. Meet, my extra 120mm fan literally laying on the floor of the case, blowing air into the card, and placed so perfecting it doesn't hit ANYTHING with it's blades.

20160722_040939[1].jpg

Yes, it's dumb, AND risky on the fan's part. BUT, it did lower temps buy 3*C and that got it out of the 90*C range. But is there a more permanent solution really possible with no budget? Can I just craft a magic 120mm bracket somehow? I have the tools, metals, and the know-how (well my dad does at least.) If not, is there ANY way I can drill through the S340 side panel (the plasticish-gets-scratched-really-easy stuff) and mount the fan there as if I had a side mounted fan? I'm ok with roughing the looks up a bit, no plans to ever sell the case. But I actually don't want to shatter the plastic trying to do something dumb. Anything helps. Thanks - Vegetable.

Did that once with an HD 6750. The little tiny fan (i think it was an XFX model) died, so I zip tied a 80mm case fan out of a scrap office pc to it. Temps never hit 60*C when stupidly overclocked (for an HD 6750.)

I know how you can improve this further... put another fan on top of this fan.

I like the ghetto'ness of this, makes me want to do something similar :D

I've done some DUMB shit in my time. My old 260 ran hotter than I wanted it to, so I zip tied two 80mm fans to it. This was a reference model Gtx 260 mind you, and with literally no fan control just these scrap fans blowing air over it, it ran like 65*C under full load (roughly 20*C cooler than the stock cooling.) Makes me take a step back and realize why aftermarket GPU coolers were even a thing back in the day (before my time, I'm only 16 this year :P)

Open your case abit and have a fan blow into it at highest setting, problem solved. :D

I tried that. It's hard to describe but the way this weird ass cooler exhausts the hot air, if I have a fan blowing (even on a low setting) into the case, it just shoves the hot air back into the intake fan. I can't win obviously.

Depending on how good the insulation of your headset is, have you considered getting some server grade industrial fans? Slap those badboys in the front of your case and that sh*t will run 20C cooler all together... probably... maybe. But it'll sound like a jet which is always a plus :)

I just have some Logitech G930's. Nothing special. By far the nicest headset I've owned but I doubt its close to what would be considered sound-proof. Again, roughly a $0 budget here so I'm just trying to find a way to keep the fan either in place there, or put it on the side panel with not a dime to spend.

I used to do it with my old PC and I reduced temps by a good 7C

Yeah I was surprised myself. My CPU temps went down a few degrees but the GPU was unaffected. I'm not saying it makes it hotter, it just didn't help at all :/

How about you just change the thermal paste? After all it's only a 570 if you f*ck anything up.
