So I just got my 7970 and I ran into something weird.  Here's the start, my Xbox 360 can run at 1080p on my TV.  And since it runs at 1080p, I expected my computer to run it too.  For some reason, when I set it at 1080p, it doesn't look right.  So, I've had to run it at 1360x768 that is the resolution it recommends(which doesn't even fit on the screen).  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?  All drivers say to be up to date

Sorry for the obvious question, but have you restarted your computer? These types of problems are often fixed with a restart.

Have you tried adjusting the resolution?

When I do everything goes tiny and when I open a game it switches right back to 1360x768

Yes I have, I probably messed some setting up when I had an ancient GT210 in

HDMI is a pain to make it work on the PC side. It was never designed for PC, and it's being forced to.

HDMI on TV's is usually not a problem, as you usually get your DVD/Blu-ray player, TV and equipment at the same time, so HDMI is usually all the same version, including your cables, and also, every hardware has to only need to worry about 2 resolution: 1080p and 720p.

It's not very robust, as a PC connector. It's best to always use: DVI or DisplayPort. HDMI is to be avoided, much like VGA.

Usually, but not all the time, disabling Overscan in your Nvidia or AMD control panel, does the trick.

Can you try that?

I would try running Driver Sweeper in safe mode to remove all possible remnants of Nvidia software, then reinstall the latest drivers after that. I'm also wondering if you might have a defective cable. Do you have another one you can try?

You don't need to do this. When you install Nvidia drivers, and you click on "Advance", there is a Clean install options, which will first remove any traces of the Nvidia drivers, without affecting Windows files, and then install the drivers, They added this, because many people broke their Windows by using programs like Driver Sweeper.

Computer monitors/ TV contain EDID which sends monitor's size, modelines, and resolution info to your pc.  In some cases EDID can be broken. This happen to me as well. Image was displayed distorted, blurry and went outside the edges, however the resolution was correct. I have Nvidia GPU so I'm using NVIDIA Control panel to fix this, but im sure this can be done with AMD/ATI cards as well.  What i did to resolve this problem was to choose a manual timing, scan type and a manual refresh rate that matched the specs of my tv. In my case instead of choosing "Automatic" timing i went with "DMT" and set a refresh rate of 75hz instead of 60hz. You can try changing the scan type as well. these setting may be different for your display, so play around with the timings.

Cool. I was never sure how thorough this was, so I have still fallen back to Driver Sweeper when something goes wrong.

Problem with TV resolutuions is that they aren't pixel perfect. While specs might say that TV is 1080p it may have much less pixels that actually correlate to what pc gpu sees. Could you give brand/model?

Just because your 360 is set to display 1080p doesn't mean the TV is displaying 1920x1080. My TV is 1360x768 and so far I am assuming your TV is as well.

Can you find what model the TV is? Even the brand and size would be helpful.
