Has anyone worked at a computer / electronics store?

I'd like to find a job until I begin university in september so I can earn something.

Since I doubt I will find a serious job that lasts only two months I think my best shot is at a computer / electronic store, has anyone here ever worked in this area? How is it?

Stress is the main issue

Sales targets, pushy managers, idiot customers who dont listen, frustration when dont want or ignore your advice, constant bullshit jobs to keep you busy, rarely thanked, constant threats from management

I work in retail, but not in electronics. It's hell. People feel they are so entitled and complain that they are spending so much money when they are the only ones who decided to spend that much. I can only imagine what tech-illiterate people do in retail stores.

On the bright side, you'd still be working with something that you're interested in. If I had to stay in retail, I'd want to move to electronics since it's more interesting to me. It just that retail is inherently overly-stressful for the workers.

I didn't say don't do it - I think retail is something EVERYONE should experience, its eye opening and character building

Different places have different kind of stress.

I used to give out flyers on the street. It was just hard labour.

Worked 6 hours, went to the supermarket and bought some food, some bread and milk or sth, nothing fancy.

Boom. Money's all gone. With half an hour break, there goes the afternoon shift.

Other places which do not require that much of labour hard work, have pressure from somewhere else, for example like the manager that is hard to deal with, picky customers, I even got scolded by the boss's mistress once. And she's like 18 years old... When it comes to the big cooperations, office politics can kill you too.

I suggest you go do it, try your best whenever an opportunity comes up.

I have known some bosses who are so capable of what they are doing, when you are working with them you are constantly learning.

And they are humble people themselves.

The thing is , you gotta try. You will not meet your dream colleagues/bosses at the 1st job.

When you are more experienced, you will have a better understanding of other people, also about yourself.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

We had to sell chocolate once as KPI's. It was 35C outside and around 30C inside because the AC was broken. When you picked up the bar of chocolate it flopped like a fish and melted through your hand but you had to up sell it all fucking day because the manager told you so. Retail is hell. The customers that come in are 99% retards and idiots. You sometimes get very nice people who are genuinely nice to you. One time on a night shift at a store I worked (I live in UK) I met this polish trucker guy who gave me a pack of beer after talking for 2h :D

He's only gotta be there two months though, so he can probably just show up and be a warm body there. Since the salesman don't usually get any commision and since he's going to school in a couple of months to prepare for his career I don't think he should care one way or the other whether he actually sells anything or whether the customers listen to him. Just tell them what makes sense and let the chips fall where they may.

Do not look for a temporary job, instead try to find a permanent job. If you can do both college and work, then do it.

This way, you can pay for your own tuition and buy the things you want. Now if you save up as much as you can, 4 to 6 years from now, when you graduate, you'll already have a head start compare to the rest.

Find a job that you have a interest and enjoy, so it makes time fly.

I'd rather focus on school.

If OP can do both at the same time. If not, then yeah school is more important, but don't expect they will guarantee to get a job once their out with a 6 figure salary.

Speaking from personal experience, you're bound to have a way better time working at an IT help desk or something of that sort. There are tech illiterate people everywhere so finding a job shouldn't be hard. I've worked as an IT support analyst at two different places and it's seriously the chilliest fucking job ever. You get paid to sit on your ass most of the time because it's not constantly demanding and plus you get to work with computers and electronics minus all the bs with working in retail.
