Is my monitor displaying 144 Hz or 60 Hz?

Jos0109

I have a dual monitor setup. Actually only one of them is a monitor of 144 Hz and the other is a 75 Hz TV. My monitor is connected directly to my GPU with a DVI-D Dual Link Cable and my TV is connected directed to the GPU as well with an HDMI Cable.

When I go to Radeon Additional Setting and go to Properties I see: Maximum reported refresh rate: 144 Hz. But when I go to Display settings (right click on desktop) --> Advanced display setting --> Display adapter properties --> Monitor, I see: Screen refresh rate: 60 Hertz.

And whenever I disconnect my HDMI Cable from my GPU the display adapter properties changes to Screen refresh rate: 144 Hertz.

So I would say that it's actually 60 Hz with the TV connected but I'm not sure. What would you say?
And if it is 60 Hz, how can I set it to display 144 Hz while still having my TV connected.

if it says 60 when you go into display adapter properties then its at 60. This is where you will need to set it to use it at 144hz properly.

I don't get the option to select 144 Hz. Only when I disconnect the HDMI cable from my gpu. But I want to have my TV as a secondary monitor. Do you know how I can have my TV connected plus having 144 hz on my main monitor?

Make sure you main monitor is selected as such on the display format page (it should be #1 while Tv should be #2) this may fix it.

I went to this page to check if my monitor was set as the main display and it was but when I went to the properties of my main monitor it wasn't set on 144 hz and I got the option to select it. So I guess you helped me by accident there. xD Thank you so much. I have been trying to fix this problem for ages now and you actually got me to fix the problem.

Thank you again! ;)

Remember you'll have to set it back to 144Hz every time you reconnect either display.

Windows defaults everything to the lowest common rate when a new display is detected.

Will do. I did not know this. Thank you for bringing this up. :)
