hi there

my gtx 1080 founders overheats my dvi connect point. its overclocked but with my fan profile it gets 78C max. if I remove the cable and wait 10 min so its not soft plastic but hard and plug it in there is no problem and if I go to task manager (load is 2% when out of the game even if game is still running) it cools down and works THIS IS WEIRD AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

It's a blower style card, so all of that heat is being pushed out the back past the connectors, so ya, it's gonna get hot. I don't know why you're surprised and think it's weird.

Also, I'm confused on the reason for your post. Are you asking why it's getting hot? Are you losing signal to the monitor when it gets hot? What exactly are you trying to say?

I think that he is trying to say that the heat is melting his DVI cable connector housing.

Well it's a blower, so naturally it's throwing heat out at the rear I/O. Get a better cable if it's melting and almost dying on you.

And when you open task manager (oh god why) the game is unfocused and put into the background. So that's pretty much why the card cools down. Task Manager doesn't require full power to render.

If that's the case then I think his GPU is running hotter than 78C and he needs to reduce his OC, or he's using a reeeeeally cheap cable.

Cables are covered in PVC.

PVC has a vaporation point at 70C. At which point it will start emitting toxic vapors that can cause hormonal disorders and cancer in some cases (basically breathing plastic and solvants).

At temperatures above 70C, PVC coated cables START TO MELT.

@truckdude03

You said your blower style card was running at 78C... well, that blower is blowing 78C heat onto the cable. So now you know what its melting.

All PVC products are required to withstand a maximum of 70C operating/ambient temperature.

Your DVI cable's insulating is litterally running in a "out of spec" enviroment.

ALL CABLES, American, European, Asian, Russian, whatever is NOT GOING TO SURVIVE TEMPS OVER 70C FOR A PROLONGED TIME

no, its the limit of PVC.

you wont find any, not a single fucking DVI, HDMI, VGA, Displayport or any other form of display cable that will survive over 70c continuos temp.

doesnt matter if its a $1000 Monster cable, or a $5 wallmart knockoff.

its the limit of PVC used in flexible cables.

you can get "special function" cables that survive over 120c heat for an hour (yes, one hour), but those are usually only used for emergency mains power. They are also extremely stiff and hard to bend. If you tried to make a display cable out of that insulation, it would litterally break the connector off inside your PC if you tried to bend it after connecting it.

Sooooooo.... Like I said he probably needs to reduce his OC a little to get the temps to drop....

Or watercool it.

I would just watercool the system.....
