CPU upgrade og GPU?

2 hours ago, Kobathor said:

It would still be good to overclock the 1070, yes. Then, your next upgrade should be CPU. You already have a Haswell i5, so you could swap it for a better Haswell i5 or even jump to an i7 without changing motherboard.

So an even stronger GPU wont mean even MORE bottlenecking? Just more extra power ye?

I have a FSP600-50ARN 88+ Silver 600W

Don't know anything about that power supply. So I'd keep an eye on it.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I don't think it will burst into flames xD but that does happen depending on how bad they are. Mostly you watch for odd performance issues. Worth the peace of mind to invest in a quality PSU in my opinion. It's the heart of your PC. Anything from Seasonic is a safe bet.

Well, scavenging the tomshardware sites and stuff, it seems like the FSP PSU's are pretty solid and reliable :D So I guess I'm in luck!

Good deal. Way better than trying to replace a PSU xD

But, if I do get the i7-4790k and a gtx 1070 gigabyte gaming g1 and overclock both, u think I need to upgrade my 600W PSU?

Ye, I have the z97 pc mate if that would do? would the i7-4790k be worth for a long time or?

Honestly if you're only gaming, the upgrade to a 4790k won't be worth the money tbh.  I'd just stick with the i5 until benchmarks show a tangible increase in performance by using an i7 or by using a newer CPU.

Unless you have something less than an i5 2500k you're going to be just fine with that card.

All about the game. If the game is CPU intensive you can run into problems with anything less than a modern i7. Why I went with one. But that is rare, and only a wise investment if your concern is minimum fps.

Battlefield titles are always really well optimized, and while it can make use of all 8 threads of an i7, performance isn't enough of an improvement over an i5 to make the difference.

You should be fine with an i5 and both of those. Usually what kills a CPU is shadows. Now I will add the caveat that with an modern i7 the stress on the CPU is lowered significantly, and a result of that is lower operating temperatures. To some this is important, I fit that mindset. But this is not a requirement. Only you can judge your needs and budget. So the topic of a i5 verses i7 for gaming is very complicated. And is confusing because it comes down to different priorities. I love my 4790k, worth the money in my opinion but my 4690k was a great CPU too. Both handled every game I through at them, the i7 just does it without breaking a sweat and offers a smoother experience because of it.

Not always less stress on the CPU.  For example, GTA V on ultra always uses like 90% of your CPU no matter if you have an i5 or an i7.  But usually this only applies to games that are very CPU intensive.

I think my primary concern, is that I want to be able to handle those new games on ultra 1080p, atleast with stable 60 fps .... since its a new GPU? If thats possible?

No wonder, since that was one of the games I watched benchmarks on, and was worried  that a old game would only give me around 50-60+ fps with a i5-4460 + gtx 1070.... So I was afraid that other games would be same

All depends on how CPU intensive the game is.  Some newer games aren't at all, some are very intensive, and some are somewhere in the middle.  You shouldn't be worried about it with a 4460 though, it's still a very fast CPU.

If you want to, you could wait for kaby lake to come out in a few months and let the 4790k drop again. When skylake came out, the 4790k dropped $40

ohh nice info thanks :D Was gonna wait anyway, since I would be spending the money on the GPU, and still some time to go before i go for the CPU :D Thanks

i've read the thread...the i5-4460 is good enough to properly feed a GTX 980ti/1070 in many/most games...some very CPU intensive titles the CPU will hold your performance a little bit but not much....your PSU is also perfectly fine...get the GPU first and then when you have some more money get yourself that nice little i7-4790K CPU and you'll be set for years to come for happy high-end gaming.
