Is the i5 4460 enough for the gtx 1070 to play any game without bottlenecking too much?

Would my i5 4460 be enough to handle the 1070 or should I invest in something like a 4790 before upgrading my gpu? Also, if it would bottleneck the card, would it be by a bit or a massive bottleneck?

For most games? Yes. Some games like extra threads, but they're still the vast minority.

It's actually interesting how a 2 year old mid range CPU can still handle modern GPUs. Also this post may have been a brain fart of mine since my i5 never reaches 100% in any game (even gta 5). I pretty much already answered my question, it's still great to receive confirmation though. I'll go ahead with the 1070 then.

No, even a 6600K bottlenecks the 1070. i7 is a must to avoid botltenecking

1070 is close to a Titan X

It can't. It WILL reach 100% before your GPU can even get to 75%.

i5 2400 will bottleneck even a 1060/480

It will be a major bottleneck. The 6600K is 20% faster at stock and it still holds it back by a significant margin. He can expect his 1070 to perform similarly to a 980.

I genuinely didnt think it would make THAT much difference

 

got any specific numbers? charts or anything, its useful information 

 

(although it will still play games fine, just maybe not at the full use of the 1070)

The only bottlenecks in my games that I have encountered (I have a I5-4670K OC 4.3 GHZ and a Gigabyte G1 Gaming Gtx 1070) is in Witcher 3 walking around in Novigrad with cpu usage being 90-100% and when walking around in wilderness, small citys cpu usage is 60-70%. So yes It will bottleneck by a small amount but its nothing I have to really worry about, but with you I would upgrade to a 6600k or 6700k if you can afford it because thats a pretty low grade I5 IMO.

yeah so  you lose a fair amount of the 1070 but OP has no GPU or something shit, they could still upgrade, and then just save up for CPU upgrade
