So some used ram I bought a few weeks ago died on me. Whatever, I'm buying new ram tomorrow so I don't are about troubleshooting if it's dead or not, before I knew that for sure I thought of some questions while I was troubleshooting.

I wondered, since I got the irql not less or equal stop error that if I transferred a drive from a different pc to another that had less ram, could that cause a driver error? (Not factoring driver errors for other reasons)

Also, is it a bad idea to transfer a completely set up and used os installation from another pc to one with different hardware, even if you plan to change to correct drivers after starting?

That shouldn't be the case. This is probably due to a bad driver.

My advice is to try it and see if it works. Many times it just won't boot at all, or the bootloader is different.

maybe it's just me but I'm not sure I understand what you're asking ...

If you're asking if you can transfer your OS drive into another PC that has different hardware, then I can tell you it won't work. I've even had experience when doing that with Dell workstation of identical hardware but with different revision where it would give a BSOD at startup.

If it's just RAM problems, just get new sticks, if you need to use "your stuff" and you can't wait, then just pull the drive out and mount it as another drive (not OS) on your other PC.

When I tried it the first time it gave the bad pool header error (the reason why I'm sure the ram is dead) and every other time it gave the irql not less or equal error

however that's with the bad ram, I'll post tomorrow when I try it with new and working ram

1. Get new ram. Normally irq bsods are due to drives, but bad memory can easily f*** up a system.

Both of your assumptions about what I said were correct, sorry I explained it awkwardly

Im getting new ram tomorrow because it's dead, and as for os as per what @Electronics Wizardy said and do it anyway for the heck of it, and do a fresh install if that doesn't work

thanks for the reply :)
