windows host process safe?

Roboslash1

Hi,

I have looked into the task manager and I often see windows host process running and it is also in my startup tab. I did a quick google search and I read that it could be some type of malware, but the file is running from Windows-system32 or something like that, so it looks legitimate. It doesn't use any cpu power or ram so Im guessing its fine. However, I dont have this process enabled on startup on my stationary, and I dont see the process there either.

Should I disable the process upon startup or just keep it as it is?

Thanks.

Leave the poor little process alone, it's not hurting you.

Any idea what it could be used for?

Stuff. Lots of stuff. The varying hosts are for running different types of processes. They sit idle in the background most of the time until they're called upon, or the system has to take some autonomous action such as managing audio, video, and what have you.

If you were to disable the Windows host process, you likely wouldn't be able to execute any programs, as there would be nothing to handle those requests. Needlessly disabling things is only going to cripple your OS.
