Why can't they just plug directly to hdmi, and use a adapter for the monitor. Some people are so dumb, they fail to try other methods.

I can't. I have 4 monitors, and how it is set up, I dont really have any options. When I got my Vive, I had to get a DP to mini DP adapter to use my Vive without disconnecting some monitors.

I really need a 1080, but I'm not buying one until this is fixed, and I can actually find one in stock.

Wishing leads to ambition and ambition leads to motivation and motivation leads to me building an illegal rocket ship in my backyard.

Ordered a Vive + 1080 in the same shipment over a month ago.

Still waiting on them cos they're both bobbing in and out of stock but are never available at the same time.

My mistake, ha

You can still use the HDMI connection, it's just trying to use the mini DP won't work.

um, correct me if I'm wrong, but the vive is HDMI right? People do know passive adapters to go from DP to above 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 on HDMI or DVI-D typically don't work...right?

The active adapters these days are cheaper, thankfully.

Actually they never work for above 1080p because when converting to DVI it becomes single link DVI and HDMI (1.x) doesnt support over 1080p 60hz (unless 1.4)

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

1.3 supports 2560x1600 @ 60 hz. Also, active adapters. I have a few myself, 2 of which are driving the two 1440p dvi-d korean monitors on my laptop.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

So as long as you don't need the single hdmi connector for a display device you're fine.

This seems like a very serious issue considering the the fact that Pascal was marketed so heavily for VR.

If this isn't fixable with a driver update, I'm curious as to what Nvidia plans to do about the people that already bought their cards. They have been mysteriously silent about it though, Nvidia reps on the Geforce forums are typically forthcoming about driver issues that are being fixed.

You can still find the article here: Tom's Hardware UK.

@DeadEyePsycho Nvidia has replied. They will release a driver fix this week.

Hey guys,

We are aware of user reports of an incompatibility when plugging HTC Vive into GeForce GTX 1080/1070 using the DisplayPort connector. We have identified a solution which is planned to be released in NVIDIA’s next Game Ready Driver targeted for later this week. In the interim, we recommend users connect HTC Vive to the HDMI port on GeForce GTX 1080/1070.
