old intel 4440

I got an old PC for free it had an intel i5 4440 no graphics card or anything else worth saving. I'm wondering if the cpu is anything great, and if its worth building a rig based off it

Pair it with an RX 480 and it's a great budget gaming rig.

The i5 4440 passes for 'Old' now?  No, that's not old.  Is it blazing stupid fast?  No.  But it's a quad core Haswell with a speed of 3,1ghz.  It could easily be made into a reasonable general purpose gaming PC, HTPC, server, or anything.

You can already tell that the benchmark is not accurate when somehow a 6600 clocked higher beats a 4400 out in singlethreaded performance, use cinebench for cpu comparison.

Dude the i5-4440 is an excellent gaming cpu. Match it with an RX 480, GTX 1070, or perhaps GTX 1060 and you'll have a killer 1080p gaming system (with a 1070 you'd even have a killer 1440p gaming system).

It is ok for light gaming (minecraft, starcraft II, battlefield 4 on medium?) so yes, it is ok if you have a decent GPU.

What MoBo did it come with? Without a GPU it can work as an acceptable HTPC running something like OpenELEC.

 

Throw in a RX 480 or GTX 1070 you got a good gaming system.
