Greetings from Australia.

Intro.

Hey Guys, I'm currently going insane. I'm a media content professional (Adobe suite)  by trade that is also an avid FPS gamer. I have always built my own rigs over the years, but due to life circumstance, took a large break from the tech world. I now find myself in a position to jump back in and was not prepared to the vast changes that have occurred in hardware.

Skylake? or Hasswell-E or Xeon?

Budget - 7.5k AUD

I need help getting to the bottom of real-time performance of the platforms.

System usage.

Adobe Aftereffects / Premiere / Photoshop 60% (including video format conversions + 4k Editing)

FPS Gaming 40%

Preference.

I would like the CPU to be overclockable.

The Motherboard to support 2x PCIe x16 + NVMe 3.0

DDR4 128gb support.

Question.

Where is my cash best spent to achieve maximum performance, in relation to CPU + Motherboard + Memory.

Thanks in advance.

I have been watching the great work of Linus and his team for a while now. Keep it up. You guys are doing a fantastic service to the global tech community.

I have no clue what you want to do for storage. Also, you could throw another 1080 at it :P

you could switch to a xeon build but that would interfere with your fps aims because they are low clocked. (or get the 6950X for two additional cores and 4 threads more)

Hey Virgule. Indeed. I intend to. Here is a pic of a build I put together for a friend on the Z77 Platform. OCed to 4.8 24x7 stable.

Nice to see some copper tubing used ! A natural way of making up for less radiator space. I like that picture a lot !

Spoiler
