Display and screen resolution

I recently just started using my tv as a monitor for watching youtube and movies and some very light gaming and for that it work fine no problems  and today when i started my computer back up the resolution and display were out of wack and i cant fix it.  When i go to screen resolution it says generic non-pnp monitor and it wont give me any other resolution besides 640x480 I even tried to change it from Amd catalyst control center i have really no idea how to go about fixing this any ideas or tips would be very welcomed..........thanks in advance

Try disconnecting the display from power for a minute.
