I've started using Illustrator recently. What size should the canvas or document be, and does it matter? Also do different tasks require a larger/smaller canvas e.g working with type, logos, posters.

I'm playing around with typefaces for a title sequence @Learnsquared and the instructor specifies "big" but not dimensions or what units etc.

Any tips on this would be great. Thanks

Depends on what you're working on. Posters would normally be A4/A3 sizes (I think they have presets in Illustrator if not google the dimensions) Logo's I tend to do at 1000x1000 or 2000x2000 at 300-600 PPI, depends on how clean you want it to look, and too be honest, for things like Logo's/Posters ETC I'd use photoshop anyway, much more advanced program and better for these scenarios IMO.

Does it really matter though? It's a vector program, meaning you can enlarge and make things smaller without losing quality. I would assume you only need to be sure you have the right aspect ratio and once you export the file you need to say what resolution it is at. At least that is how things works in Inkscape (an open source vector program I have used more than AI).

I think so. As you say, it's a vector program. I just hadn't used the program in any capacity before so I thought I'd get a second opinion before spending time on a file. Thanks for your response guys @Minibois @SherifsDog22
