I bought a copy of pokemon silver a few months back, briefly after I got it, I tested it just to see if it works which it did. Then I played it later and saved turned it on again then I found out the battery was dead. I bought a new one and soldered it on the two connectors and then saved it again and it worked, I could open the save file. Then I tried to play it again and the save file was gone. So is there any way I can restore it to it's previous glory.

I'd just emulate it, save be damned (this coming from someone with a 1000 hr save)
