Still good value. 8GB DX12 ready entry-VR 1440p-capable GPU for 240$. Could be worse and it's better value than a 970.

Also, DF's video showed a 2% OC give them 8fps. Makes me wonder what Sapphire could do with a Vapor-X and dual 6-pins. Am hopeful for a Lightning as well.

Comes down to the crap cooler, like all reference coolers. I hope they get the Sapphire out before the 1060 hits.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

i wish i could find the thread in which i got slaughtered by 3 or 4 of these amd boys for saying the reference card will run like garbage...at the end of the 3 or 4 pages the reference edition of the cards was the BEST thing on earth...even better than custom liquid cooling pretty much.

DX12 is a good 3-4 years from becoming mainstream.  Polaris and Pascal will be relics by then.

Pascal bitch slapped the async issue out of a moving truck.

AMD cards are notorious for stuttering.  Lady luck is on my side.

I know, but it won't compete well with that either. It is unlikely that nvidia will release a card (1060) that performs just as well as a prior gen card (970) with the same price (220USD). I was hoping that he 8gb model would be at least 980ti performance, but it fell far short. The 4gb model is what should be competing with the 970/1060.

Did you even see what they did with a 760 -> 960? 5% difference and Nvidia is not really knowen for making good budget cards. I hope they do something good this gen, but I doubt it.

How can you be hoping for a card that performs like a 980ti when the 1070 performs like a 980ti?? That does not make any sense.

No, it's the tessellation and shadowplay for AMD fans. Way more useful as a point of contention than something useful in games.

960 over clocks like a rockstar on drugs.

As we've seen, over clock the 480 by a smidge and it drops dead like Whitney Houston in a tub.

1. DX12 is already getting here with big AAA titles so that is BS

2. No they did not, not even in a single way

3. Did you even see the graph of the 480 vs 970, the 480 was intensely smooth while the 970 was spiking a lot

a 2% OC on the 480 showed about 8 fps increase while you would have to OC the CRAP out of a 960 to get that.

ahhh see...290X was different...this was much earlier in GCN life...there was still lots of room for driver improvements back then...

today, AMD GCN drivers are mature...and this card is still based on GCN.

you do realize that drivers are not based on architecture, but based on actual GPU?

there can be specific issues with a single GPU family, like Fiji, without it having a single fucking effect on other GCN 3 cards like Tonga and Antigua.

Maxwell, Kepler and Pascal does NOT scale well with clock speed. The % increase compared to the % increase in performance is way worse then with GCN. This is just how it is. Accept it and move on. Maxwell, Pascal, Kepler, GCN 1, GCN 2, GCN 3, GCN 4 -> they all have ups and downs. Trying to argue one is so much better simply because it is made by the vendor you despise doesnt really improve your stance or credibility.

dude I owned a 960 because I got it for free and damn I had to OC it a lot to get even 6fps more and I did not bring up the OC of a 960 you did, I have showed that Nvidia has not been very good with budget cards and that just because one tier gets a big boost does not equal to that all tiers will get a big boost and then after you brought I said that you would have to OC the 960 a lot more than the 2% to get 8 fps more, AMD cards just generally scale better.
