Except the extra ROPs aren't super necessary anymore for a multitude of reasons. I'm not too educated on the topic either, but that much I can figure out.

Some people in Thailand got a hold of RX 480 and benchmarked it and videod it. They benchmarked it on Firestrike.

 

It was similar to a GTX 970 performance. Some people leaked Tomb Raider footage of the RX 480 and it performed exactly like a GTX 970.

Example 2 (AMD example) this one's gonna be challenging since I don't keep up with AMD stuff all that much. That said, here it goes))

Radeon™ RX 480 set to drive premium VR experiences into the hands of millions of consumers; starting at just $199

 

Explanation

AMD is claiming that their $199 RX 480 will drive VR experiences at the stated price point. What AMD left out here is the performance metrics when the RX 480 is subjected to VR, since VR is quite demanding and requires some powerful (though not obscenely powerful) hardware to drive VR at acceptable framerates so as to not induce issues (like dizziness or vomiting for example).

 

Exception: If the evidence being left out does not affect the conclusion, then the arguer or the presenter is not committing this fallacy. Like the fact that the GPUs does need power from the power supply.

 

Tip: If you suspect someone is telling (or presenting) a half-truth, don't be afraid to ask "is there anything you're not telling me?" That's the best way to call out someone for cherry picking

A new driver will not make this 50% faster. Not even 30% faster. At best, 10-20% faster.

NEWS FOR YOU: THE 980 IS, AT BEST, 10-20% FASTER THAN THE 970...

 

A driver DOES have the potential to make a card 30% faster. You underestimate just how inefficient older drivers are with BRAND NEW ARCHITECTURES

I think I will wait for GTX 1060. Similar performance with GTX 970 and lack of GameStream really turns me off. I highly expect this card on GTX980 level, better or worse.

But still, performing like a GTX 980 isn't something to be proud of. I'd be disappointed if it didn't do.
