How the hell did I do this?

So I have a locked i5 4460 CPU and I was bored so I turned the multiplier up on my H97 board and it worked... 32 to 34...

You can change the the multiplier of locked processors you simply can't go passed certain boundaries. In your case it will be 34x multiplier because that is the maximum turbo speed on your processor.

You can "overclock" so you are always turbo

You know, that changes my opinion on the i5-6400. 2.7GHz is terrible clockspeed for a processor today, but if the user (or system builder) is able to disable turbo boost, then set the CPU to always run at 3.3GHz max turbo, that's not so bad. It's like Intel allows for a small amount of overclocking.

not true tho, basically if temps are OK,when the power is required it will stay at that "turbo" speed at all times, even if you dont set it manually, and will go back to normal speeds when not needed (at least in my testings with several intel cpus) turbo boost has come a long way since it could only ramp up 1 core

Or just get ( example ) z170 AsRock Pro4 and turn the BCLK to get you to 3.5-4GHz

Yeah, I've been wanting to do that for a while, hit like 4.6GHz for an effective 50% overclock. But it'll disable AVX which I might need in the future

I've been trying to figure how to do a similar thing myself for a year. I have a 4690S (3.2 base/3.9 turbo) paired with a Z97 motherboard but the max multiplier is limited to 32X with Turbo Boost off and 35/36/38/39 (4/3/2/1 core) with TB on. It's kind of BS I can't at least bring up the multiplier to max turbo even with Z97.
