Posted June 22, 2016 I already bought two Seagate drives, but everyone is saying that I should return them and get WD. Are they really so bad and fail so often ? Should I return them and get WD HDDs ? Which WD drives arent so expensive and perform similary to Seagate drives ? Posted June 22, 2016 Stay away from seacrate drives, if you hold your data dear. Get WD Blue/Black whatever they were if you must, but WD isn't in my top list of reliability. Posted June 22, 2016 Why not consider Hitachi/HGST drives? Can't say I'm personally a fan of either WD or Seagate, although the choices these days are really waning. Smart people don't trust anything to a single HDD, and always use some form of redundant RAID. Or even Toshiba / Samsung (Well, Seagate owns them now) / HGST (WD owns them). What you really care about is making sure to scan the drive end to end using the manufacturer tool to make sure the drive doesn't have any damage internally before using it for anything. I would start to get weary of a drive regardless of brand after 4 years. I had my WD Black die after 8 years...25k runtime hours. It lasted more than long enough. The Seagate SSHD in our old laptop is still kicking strong after 4 years. I personally prefer WD, but that's just a preference. If I was to buy a platter drive, I wouldn't go anywhere else. But Seagate makes perfectly fine drives and you'll be fine. If they do die, it will be because of a manufacture flaw or your own foolishness. Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.
