Fire strike stress test - cpu frequency question.

Hello. Like we know 3dmark was updated to Fire strike stress test mode. I bench using Fire Strike stress test ULTRA on my 980 Ti Gaming Xtreme and 6700k on stock. Result are normal.

My screen, take a look on cpu frequency ( 4 to 4,2 ghz ):

But cpu frequency during test is drifting between 4-4,2 ghz i dont know why. Is this normal?

Somebody make test Fire Strike Stress test and he get stable 4,2 ghz.

I'm not sure, to be more sure, are you overclocked?

No all is stock.

Then it's normal. Your CPU runs at 4ghz turbo.

But why sometimes it goes down to 4 ghz and up to 4,2ghz and again down during test.

And why somebody here have stable 4,2ghz .:?

your cpu is doing what it should, turboing up and down, while their cpu has turbo boost disabled, your cpu runs at 4ghz, but is at the right opportunities going to 4.2

For the 6700k, it boost to 4ghz when using 2~4 cores, but 4.2ghz when only a single core is on. Those spikes are likely to be loading sections, which the cores aren't being stressed (and thus you get a boost).

As for the stable test, the guy just set his CPU to run at 4.2ghz even on 4 cores load. You have to set it up, though, that's not the stock behaviour.

it's going 4.2GHz when only one core is loaded, usually during scene switching, that's why it's so periodic

you are completely fine

all you need to be worrying is the GPU load and the final result - consistency mark

But in other tests in 3dmark i have 4,2 ghz no matter what without changing to 4 ghz. Any ideas? Only in stress test my clock is drifting between 4ghz to 4,2ghz

Those tests stress the CPU differently.

Simple, if you want constant 4.0Ghz, go in BIOS and disable turbo boost.

If you want constant 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, etc... Ghz, disable turbo boost and overclock it to that speed.
