Windows 10 file explorer constantly crashing

I believe that's what's going on.

 

Pretty much, my pc will randomly have issues where file explorer constantly freezes and stops responding, and any time that happens I have to restart my pc to get out of it, and whenever I do restart my pc, after signing into windows I'm always at a black screen, my desktop and file explorer not loading at all. The only thing I can do to fix it is restart my pc holding shift to go into recovery mode and doing a system restore to roll my pc back a few days, that being the only thing that fixes it.

 

However it's not just a once in awhile thing, it's happening multiple times every day. The first time it happened was many weeks ago, when I tried installing an old game on my pc, whenever I would try install it, every time it got close to done it would completely freeze up, file explorer crashing and my having to do a system restore to fix it. I figured it could have been that my game was too old for windows 10 so I installed it on my windows 8.1 partition, it installing perfectly fine there. However after that I would have this problem every other day, however this past week I've been having it a lot more often, it happening out of nowhere now. I was gone for a day, me having my pc off that entire time and when I turned it on earlier today it went into a black screen again and I had to do a system restore. And after that was done when I was just browsing the internet I tried saving some gif I found on facebook, right clicking and choosing save image, and when I did file explorer crashed again.

 

At this point the only way I can think of to fix it is to do a complete reinstall of my windows 10 OS, however I really would rather avoid doing that because I don't want to spend hours reinstalling everything. Not to mention since Windows 10 is my main OS, if I did a clean install of it then I'd probably have to do a clean install of my 8.1 partition to use that again. Is there anyway to fix this without doing a clean install?

did you upgrade to windows 10 or clean install it?

because if you didnt clean install when you moved to windows 10 then you caused this yourself and the only fix is a clean install

 

upgrading is the lazy way

half the time it breaks windows

 

best thing you can do is sfc /scannow in CMD and hope it can do/fix something

but other than that, you need to clean install

 

which you should have done in the first place

my taskbar reloads sometimes when I write or install something. Or it will do it randomly and all the icons come back slowly. Its really weird.

I'm not some idiot bro, I know all about upgrade/clean install and always advice people to do clean installs

And I thought I was the only one having Explorer problems.

Check your windows event logs for warnings "disk" and others.

 

Mine does stuff like this but only in Windows 10 odd I know.  I get constant I/O operation retired warning.

It didn't find any integrity violations.

Also it seems whenever I install updates after I restart I go to black screen after signing in.

I ended up resetting my pc, doing another clean install of windows 10. Hopefully that fixes things. I know some people who do clean installs every now and then to make things run better

Also, if the problem persists, I would try calling Microsoft. They helped me awhile back before I knew this forum, and they fixed a corrupt metro app problem. What they did was basically re-install windows, although you have already done that they may have some more experience in this.
