They are most likely laptops which have been sent back and repaired via RMA. They might be absolutely fine and 'like-new' OR they might have a fatal error which has not/can not be repaired. Just make sure whatever you pick up has a warranty.

Is that a good or bad thing? (Basically is a new laptop worth another $500?)

That's a horrible thing. All the new "Skylake" and "TB3" features don't exist. Granted you would have similar gaming performance, but there is literally no point in wasting so much money on an already overpriced product that was last gen.

The only reason im looking at Razer is because they have everything I want in a laptop except price

I bought the 2014 refurb blade 14 with 870m. Had to return it twice. Their CS is pretty understandable and they rely within 1 buisness day. I returned it due to bad battery, then a stuck pixel with yellow verticle line on the display. It was too much of a frustration especially when I had to pay for shipping for a refund. (free when I asked for a replacement)
