Should I get 1070 or add +100€ for the 980ti? Or save 200€ and get 970?

maremp

The GTX 1070 is finally listed on Mindfactory: http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/8192MB-MSI-GeForce-GTX-1070-Gaming-Edition-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_1094583.html

Not sure what kinds of drugs were they taking when coming up with this price, it's insane, comparing to previous gen *70 model prices.

On the other hand, there is 980ti, which is currently 627€ (1070 + 98€): http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/6144MB-MSI-GeForce-GTX-980-Ti-Gaming-6G-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_1004671.html

Or the 970, at 315€ (1070 - 214€): http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/4096MB-MSI-GeForce-GTX-970-Gaming-4G-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_976948.html

Or go all the way with 1080 at 790€ (1070 + 260€): http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/8192MB-MSI-GeForce-GTX-1080-Gaming-X-8G-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_1067767.html

For the most part, I don't need a beefy gpu. I will be doing gaming very occasionally, probably around 10h per week. I plan to play newer AAA titles (Witcher 3, Fallout  4, GTA 5, etc.) on my 1440p UW (3440x1440) screen. Doesn't have to be all ultra settings at 60+ fps, I just want to play the game for its experience.

1070 is better than or equal to 980ti in all scenarios, so don't buy a 980ti (unless you want to wait a while for price drop). 1070 is waaaaay better than 970, so probably worth the money, especially for 1440p.

Wait a little bit, and see if you can find a cheap second hand 980ti on a reliable website.

970 will be really crappy for ultrawide 1440p imo. Even the 1070/980Ti will begin to sweat with ultrawide 1440p. You'll be able to get close to 60 fps with everything on ultra with both of them on most titles. So yeah, either you wait for a great deal on a 980Ti or just go with a brand new 1070

Well I'm waiting for GTX 1070 EVGA SC to arrive on mindfactory or caseking.

But price will be around 480€ for it sadly. Was hoping on 430-450€ price :(

Yeah... At that point, it's worth waiting for AMD counter-attack with Polaris and maybe Vega later this year to see prices drop (if AMD doesn't screw up...)

Well I won't be going for AMD again.

For this upgrade it will be GTX 1070 for sure. It's only the matter of time and money.

you know that a 1070 has titan x performance right?

I've looked at few benchmarks, the benchmarks vary a bit. In some cases, it was better than 980ti, in others, it was worse.

What do you mean by reliable? Do you want to say mindfactory isn't reliable?

After taking UK prices into account of the 390, the 970 and 1070

£400 for the 1070

£240 for the R9 390

£260 for the 970

With these prices in mind, the best price to performance is the 390 by 110%, 1070 at 100% and the 970 at 90%

With the estimated performance and price of the RX 480, it destroys everything with 153% (These are all estimates, do not quote this...)

Too bad, it's the first time since... well forever that we can be excited about AMD's new line-up ^^ I'm personally looking forward to their Vega high-end series, but the Polaris line is looking good.

Either way, the 980ti is most definitely not worth the extra 100€, and if the 1070 is worth 200€ more than a 970, up to you, if you are happy with the performance the 970 has then go with that but at the moment the 1070 is considered to be the 1440p sweetspot gpu

Well I'm already 1 week without GPU, because I wanted to get some money for my R9 390. Got 270€ for it, and now I can see the same card in shop brand new for that price xD

However, I can't wait much longer for new GPU, so I hope GTX 1070 SC will be avaliable soon, otherwise I might just buy Fanboy Edition lol

You are probably right. I do not have any idea of what performance to expect. My last dedicated gpu was GTX 250, after that I was using laptops only, so anything that I get will be out-of-the-ballpark better performance. It's just that if I'm already spending this much, I would like to get best bang for my buck, even if it means paying more. Although the 1080 means +50% price, which is a bit steep.

my 970 just about cuts it for 1080p gaming imo. you'll want the 1070, it seems to outperform the 980ti so id only get t hat if it was cheaper

Well I will put waterblock on it, so it doesn't realy matter since it's same PCB.

Sure SC EVGA has 100MHz higher clocks, but I can also get that with MSI afterburner or that EVGA OC utility.

And it's only 10€ difference so whatever xD

Won't be waiting for early July to get GPU in my system -.-

It was a question. That's one of purposes of this forum. I am grateful for any bit of information I get, although I would be even more thankful if it would be delivered w/o sarcasm.
