MOST people who own a computer, and people who even build computers, only have 1 computer at a time. Only really the enthusiasts out there who also have the cash tend to have more than one rig. They will often have a work computer, a gaming computer, a test bench, a media PC, a NAS, servers, anything really. even when its not exactly practical.

But yes, most people who build their own pc's, tend to only have 1 at a time. If you're asking if people who build a PC ever do it again, I would say that most people would probably build again (although it would depend greatly on the person). I know I certainly am going to build again. Was too much fun not to =)

I've rebuilt my one rig so many times and have gone through so many parts, I could have about 3 other fully operational systems if I kept all the parts on the side. There's no reason to be running more than one machine in my case, especially since my laptop has enough power to play my favorite titles and do video work.

I do know a guy with about 5-6 systems on the side, but he's a bit of a show in our small group of friends. Never met somebody so willing to spend money on another computer he already owns.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Most will have one full rig. Along are things like laptops and tablets. If you are more into tech, and more importantly, have money things are different. You would most likely have HTPC and/or server. But having more than 3 custom builds is very rare.

Yes I do have 3 rigs and a laptop, but only for separation of my types of work, I have a pc for Working purpose, one for hobby and gaming and one for media center, and laptop for presentation and work on the go.

But i think these type of requirement is very small among all users. if you are categorized in this type of user then you may require more than one rig. 3 years before I had only 1 desktop for my studying, because then i was a student. So it depends which category of user you are.

most people will have only 1 or 2 computer.

I'm not most people ... 1x laptop, 1x main/gaming , 1x NAS, 1x HTPC, 1x Windows tablet, and 1 gaming rig I'm building right that's gonna be a gift for my nephew ... so 6 PCs and they are all used at one point or another during the day.
