Noticeable difference between 1080p and 2k?

TheSuspect

1080p used to be _the resolution_ for any build. But recently, 1440p is becoming popular, but my question is, is there a noticeable difference? With editing there probably is, I guess there may be a somewhat noticeable with gaming as well. But just for general use?

Nothing.

More screen real estate I would say so yeah. I haven't used one personally, also wouldn't it be 2.5k not 2k?

Text will be sharper, that's the only thing I can think of, all I use is a 1680*1050 60Hz display that I need to upgrade.

Um, isn't it 2k? Unless I've gotten it incorrect for the entirety of my life :^)

Nothing.

Many more things, more space to fit interfaces in, higher detail in games and less need for Anti-aliasing would also be big factors. There are plenty of smaller changes that you would also notice when using it, but those are the bigger ones. If you have a GPU powerfull enough to move whatever you play at 1440p, go ahead and grab one!

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

well if 1080p = 1920*1080 (2k) 4k(technically UHD) = 3840*2160 surely it would be 2.5/6k ?(2560*1440). I don't know why I care tbh, clearly I have nothing better to do with my life atm. xD

1440p is a lot sharper especially at 27'' size monitors...it's night and day vs 1080p.

If you look at pixels per inch or PPI charts you'd realize that a 2560x1440 monitor at 27'' is as sharp as a 1920x1080 @ 20''...so, pretty sharp.

But, 2560x1440 is 77.7% more pixels, so a noticeable performance hit in games come with the resolution increase...but it's beautifu and well worth it.

I made the upgrade from 24'' 1080p to 27'' 1440p...and that was the best move i have ever done...

1440p is very noticeably better IMO.  Everything looks better, and you can get a larger display and maintain good pixel density.

Well these "K" lables  are based on Horizontal pixels so 1080 (1920x1080) is 2K screen or maybe 1.9K, I don't know exact calculation. I know 4K monitors and TVs don't always have over 4000 Horizontal pixels.

2k is what 4k should have been called as it is 2x1080 in the vertical. But yeah...

i have a 1440p and it is really nice. Never going back down for main monitor on both hz and pixels. Main issue now is that we lack low response IPS monitors. Also there is backglow to worry about. I have no experience with IPS myself. All i see is that some cheap TN panels actually is decent at light compared to expensive high end TN monitors.

4K is precise if 1080p would be called 1K because 4K fits 4 1K resolutions

im not a fan of 24" panels personally. they are too large for 1080p but too small for 1440p.

if your pc isnt quite fast enough for 1440p i would go with 2560*1080 29"

Nope its not 2k :D 2k is a cinema resolution of 2048×1080 - so basically 1080p

1440p is more like 2.7k (cinema 2.7k is  2704x1524) 2560 is close to 2704
(or maybe 2.5k 2432 x 1366)

But really you should call it 1440p

there is a nice 25" 1440p Dell monitor the U2516

1440p is TOTALLY worth it over 1080p

24" 1080p -= 91ppi - 2.074 Million pixels

25" 1440p = 118 PPI - 3.69 Million Pixels

I think I'll stick with a 24" since I don't really have a large desk and I need to fit two monitors

The "K" nomenclature is pure ass. If you want to talk about a resolution, use the p nomenclature, followed by a descriptor like ultrawide or curved or something so that people know immediately what you are talking about. Whoever decided (erroneously) that 1440p should be called "2K" needs a baseball bat to the knees.

if you can fit 2 24" ones you can even fit a 21:9 34" on there.

Sounds good, but the thing is, I need two monitors, of the same resolution if possible

if your gaming and doing something next to that you can go 21:9 29" and a vertical 16:9 one.

or if you only want to fit teamspeak or music you can go for a 4:3

Gaming one screen, streaming stuff other screen most of the time. I just never really saw appeal for 21:9 monitors

running one since 2 years now. i love it.

but if your sharing content and dont want it to look cinematic all the time 16:9 is better.
