GTx 1080 REFERNCE CARD IS GOOD

razor007

Oh it is. The 1080 is over 20% faster than the 980 TI. i5s already bottlenecked the 980 Ti a bit.

Lets make it clear that this depends on the game / application. In most games they didn't bottleneck. In some they did, and those ones are worth mentioning.

depends on the resolution. Loads of benchmarks show high end cpu's bottle necking a 1080 at 1080p, upwards of that is fine.

Wow, I think I am done with this community, I now see how toxic it is.

Just out to bash, started off on the founders edition and now you move on to my cpu, which is perfectly adequate for a 1080, as I know because I have both

Very true - at least for some of the LTT community.

You have an excellent gaming setup and will not be disappointed at any resolution.

You're right, the facts won't change, that fact being you're a silly little troll who likes to think he's above everyone and his word is final. Crawl back under your small small rock and don't come back unless you have something useful to say and stop bashing other peoples shit. I worked hard to get my build together not to have some low life like you just talk smack about it, what's up, bad upbringing?

No, I don't. Why? Cause the CPU is not being utilized at 100% unlike the GPU in this scenario. Pointless comparison

5 years at 90*C? Yeah, that seems as likely as pigs flying. And last time I checked, my steak didn't have wings

uh, yeah...

put 100% load on one core and the 4790k is at 4.4GHz

put 100% load on two cores and it will drop to 4.3GHz

and all 4 cores is 4.2GHz

do you call this throttling? lol

its called "turbo boost" not throttling

go learn about it!

Why are you talking about CPU speedstep? It's not directly connected. As for that - that is the way it is intended to work - unlike with the 1080.

Says the person who couldn't stay on topic and had to try to bash another person because his "CPU is bottlenecking his GPU" which really isn't the case gaming at 1440P on his Gsync equipped monitor.. even if it was, why the hell would you care? It isn't your system... he is also clearly getting plenty of FPS to negate any bottlenecking.. The only bottlenecking I have seen of the 1080 is at 1080P when "200 fps" is considered being bottlenecked.. Please inform us where you came to find out that his i5-4690K is holding back his GPU...

if you watch the video, he mentions both GPU and CPU turboboost

yeah i called it the wrong thing, i thought speedstep was the turbo boost of CPUs

but no, its called the same thing

all the more reason you should already know that lowering turbo clock is not the same thing as thermal throttling :)

You lot are like children

We know the 1080 runs hot and makes the core speed jump around,

We know that raising the power limit and temp limit solves this core speed jumping around making the card run even hotter

We know that putting the fan speed at a high amount solves both of theses issues but makes the card louder.

Nvidia has not released a card which will cause itself to blow up and die after 3 years because it runs at a temperature that a bunch of uneducated people on some forum said was not safe operating temperatures. (I only imagine what peoples reaction would be when they realise render farms run at nearly 80C 24/7 for months at a time and they aren't fried)
We also know that regardless of resolution some games are more CPU bound than others. Want to run Witcher 3 at the highest settings? You're better off with an i7 and faster RAM. Want to get the most performance out of Dirt 3? You can run a dual core Pentium and not have a problem.

Why this thread has 4 pages of arguing over information that can be googled is beyond me.

Personally I'm more interested in the noise level compared to the GTX 980 Ti which can be pretty loud using the reference cooler.

I own one. It was a gift so I don't complain over the cooler. But it is a lot louder that what board manufacturers have strapped on that chip. Aaand hotter!

Does anyone have compared the noise levels of both card under a 100% load?

[never touch a running system]

Why buy such a expensive GPU when you run a 900p screen? The 1080 is made for 1440p and 4k. You don't need a g sync screen a normal 1440p screen is okay cheap and looks so much better than 1080p...

This screen is IPS and looks really really nice in person. I have used it for over a year now and I love it. I am global in CSGO and yes a 144Hz screen will make fast action things look nicer, but it is not something that will help you that much.
