Hi guys,

I have dug up my dads old computer and trying to figure out if I should just chuck it all, or build it into a new case, or salvage some:

  • Nvidia GeForce 7900 GTX
  • AMD Sempron 3500+
  • 560w power
  • 2 x 2gb RAM DDR2
  • Foxconn A6VMX Motherboard

It's been a while since my PC building days, and just curious what I can do with any of it.

the only thing i can think of thats sortof acceptable is the RAM and PSU, the other stuff is almost useless for anything. the RAM is only usefull if you are going with something like a LGA 775 build on an extreme budget tho. i would keep the PSU and build new

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Mostly, it's junk. The only parts I would keep:

- case - if it takes a standard power supply, drives, etc. (The original motherboard is standard mATX)

- power supply - if it's a decent quality and has some SATA power plugs, etc.

- optical drive - if it's SATA

- hard drive - if it's SATA and is at least a couple hundred MBs.

Other than that, the rest is too old and weak to bother with. The average tablet has better performance.

The gpu if it still is functioning would be good for an office pc or such that doesn't require a lot of graphics(if it is pcie not agp), but both amd's and intels igpus are far superior, the cpu and motherboard are really what what would be the main issue with the pc.
