Does anyone ever had a hidden folder in the google drive folder called: .tmp.drivedownload? It's really bugging me since I have searched online and found no accurate answer or fix from google support forums. The support team didn't even know what exactly this folder was. I have deleted it a couple of days ago but today it reappeared. I repeat, the folder is hidden and it does not contain anything. There's a picture of the folder attached to this post. Thanks to anyone who answers!

My guess is it uses it like a cache - somewhere to store incomplete downloads while fetching files before moving the finished file into its proper location.

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Its temporary file/folder that is created everytime you download something from Drive. There's no harm to have it hanging there.

Thanks for the info, but does it have to stay there even if I am not using files inside my google drive?

You can delete it any time you like. It will be created again when its needed.

I noticed the hidden .tmp.drivedownload folder a few days ago.  This post on the Google Drive product forum has an explanation from a Google Employee... https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/drive/DrmQYgzHgsg/Wto4SiQuDgAJ

For reference the comment is quoted below, in summary don't delete the folder...

This was changed to accommodate downloads for users who have their Google Drive folder on a partition that differs from their TEMP folder.  It should not be showing however (i.e. it should be a hidden directory).  I'll file a bug with the team if this is not the case.

NOTE: This is working as intended.  Please do not delete that folder or you risk syncing issues.
