GTX 970...Faulty Again ?????

SaladinSVK

Hello...A year ago i started topic about my GPU failing here ..this is that topic

After RMAing the card...they sent it back to me after month...saying that they have not found any problem and that it is not faulty...so i plugged it back to my PC and it realy worked normally again...i didnt know why but i was happy that it works again...and now ...after almost year..the old problems have returned..random artefacting and crashing ...again i cant seem to find any visible problems...all cables are plugged as they should ...temperatures are normal (67 °C )  i tried to reseat gpu , memory etc etc....PC is dust free ...again i have no idea what is going on...only thing that i cant measure is VRM remperatures...so maybe it could be fried  VRAM  ??? but i cant see any physical damage on card itself...and why would it disappear for year if it was the case...i dont know if i should try RMA again...what if they just send it back to me as they did before ...sending some pictures of said artefacts20160605_200405.jpg20160605_200257.jpg

Having had some bad issues with modding lately, is it just in the one game, or is it a system wide issue? because if it's just the one game I'd say it's a setup issue, if it happens in a bunch of programs then I'd be looking at the card and dealing with it from there

I would honestly try and get a refund and save for the gtx 1070 or amd rx 480. The 970 was a disaster from release in my eyes...

Even tho it wasn't the greatest launch it still the most sold card out there by far. And yeah u should try to getting a refund amd just go for either the RX 480 or the 1070

Usually artifacts occur when there is something wrong with the VRAM, but I don't know any way to confirm this, maybe someone else does?

Yea :D ...it was working like magic first year and half...could play all games at max details no problem...until this happened :( hope they will refund it this time...i just dont get it why they didnt found any fault last time ???how are they testing it when they receive product to RMA ???strangely enough is that this does not occur while i was running benchmarks...unigine valley...maybe that is why they didnt found any fault ???

I was gonna suggest running valley or heaven on maxed settings....that does strike me as odd.. any extra programs you're running while gaming but not while doing benchmarks?

Looks like VRAM is dying. That's what usually causes artifacts.

  • 1 month later...

Well ...hello again ...here i am with some doubts and thoughts ...i would like to buy new GPU...MSI 1070 ...but before that i need to confirm that the old gpu mentioned IS really the cause of problems...well.. i am sure of that ...i mean ...EVERYTHING points towards it ... but when i went to my retailer  he planted seed of doubt into me...saying that there may be something different to cause the problems...so i need YOU ...more educated and experienced folks of LTT forums to confirm me it really is faulty GPU ...

So here is recapitulation : PC started to behave weirdly about year ago...randomly showing artefacts ..crashing display drivers...so i tried many things to repair it...first i was monitoring it nonstop...all temperatures were OK...never above 70°C ... not only gpu...all temperatures in pc are ok...everything was plugged in as it should...i reinstalled drivers...with DDU..newest...older...basic drivers that windows installed by itself...reseated gpu...i formatted pc...clean install windows 7...i tested RAM with memtest...tested CPU , HDD , SSD ...looking for any physical damage ..found none...never found anything that could be causing it...so i sent it to RMA...they send it back to me ...saying they found no issue with it...and ..like miracle..it was working again for next 8 months...they say that they didnt found any problem...yet it seems they must have done something because it was working again...or did God do something ???...i was happy...but than it occured again...when i used my sister gpu...it was all working ...tried friends gpu...all working...when they tried my gpu in theirs..fully working PC`s ...they get the same problems like i have...THIS alone is proof to me that GPU must be faulty...or am i mistaken ? how could it be possible that after changing my PC gpu for theirs everything is fine...and they using my GPU started to have the same problems...is my retailer just trying to confuse me ???

i dont know what to do anymore...

sorry for long post...

RMA'ing the card is the only sensible option based on what you are saying.

IF the issue happens on other machines then your own then it will happen on the retailers/Repair shops test system and they will either repair or replace the card - where i live you are unlikely to get a refund if the product is still readily available.

Gigabyte and bad support. Now that's in no way surprising :D

RMA it again and be persistent. Threaten a lawsuit. Them not honoring warranty is illegal.

Test whatever you can, and swap as many hardware as you can to test differend components.

If that will be still problem, just RMA it or request for refund.

I allready tried downclocking it under reference clock speed...i dont think swaping psu would make any difference as swaping gpu for similiar one with same connectors was working and using my gpu in different pc with better psu showed same problems
